Get Your PE Licensure Process Started Early
BKF Engineers expects Structural Project Engineers to be on a path toward Professional Engineer licensure. Start your FE exam and experience documentation before you apply, because PE eligibility signals long-term commitment that directly supports a sponsorship case.
Target BKF Offices in California Strategically
BKF operates primarily across California, where prevailing wage requirements under DOL rules are high. Research which office aligns with your structural experience, since project types vary by region and hiring managers prioritize candidates with relevant local code and seismic design knowledge.
Frame Your Portfolio Around Code-Compliant Structural Work
Consulting firms like BKF evaluate candidates on demonstrated familiarity with IBC and ASCE standards. Present your structural calculations, drawings, or project deliverables in a way that shows you can contribute to client-facing work from day one without a long technical ramp-up.
Clarify the EB-2 vs EB-3 Path During Offer Negotiation
BKF has sponsored both EB-2 and EB-3 categories for engineering roles. Ask HR directly which classification they intend to file under, since EB-2 requires demonstrating advanced degree or exceptional ability, and the PERM labor certification timeline differs meaningfully between the two.
Confirm Employment Authorization Timing Before You Resign
If you're transitioning from OPT or another employer's H-1B, verify your I-94 expiration and any grace period before accepting an offer. USCIS generally allows a 60-day grace period after employment ends, but filing timing with a new employer must align to avoid gaps in authorized status.
Use Migrate Mate to Track BKF Structural Openings
BKF Engineers posts Structural Project Engineer roles across multiple locations and experience levels. Use Migrate Mate to filter and monitor these openings by sponsorship eligibility so you're applying to roles where international candidates are actively considered, not just hoping the job description mentions it.

Find Structural Project Engineer at BKF Engineers JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does BKF Engineers sponsor H-1B visas for Structural Project Engineers?
BKF Engineers' sponsorship history for Structural Project Engineers is primarily through permanent residency pathways, specifically EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card categories, rather than H-1B. If you're already on an H-1B through another employer, BKF can potentially transfer your status, but you should confirm H-1B cap-exempt or transfer eligibility directly with their HR team during the offer process.
How do I apply for Structural Project Engineer jobs at BKF Engineers?
Applications for Structural Project Engineer roles at BKF Engineers go through their careers page, where openings are listed by office location and experience level. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse current BKF openings filtered specifically for visa sponsorship eligibility, which helps you identify roles where international candidates are actively being considered before you invest time in a tailored application.
Which visa types does BKF Engineers typically use for Structural Project Engineers?
BKF Engineers has used EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories to sponsor Structural Project Engineers for permanent residency. EB-2 applies if you hold an advanced degree or can demonstrate exceptional ability in structural engineering. EB-3 covers professionals with a U.S. bachelor's degree equivalent. Both require PERM labor certification through the DOL before USCIS will adjudicate the immigrant petition.
What qualifications does BKF Engineers expect from Structural Project Engineers?
BKF typically looks for a bachelor's or master's degree in civil or structural engineering, along with hands-on experience in structural analysis, design documentation, and client project delivery. Familiarity with California Building Code, seismic design principles, and tools like ETABS, SAP2000, or RAM Structural System is a practical advantage. Progress toward Professional Engineer licensure is expected at the project engineer level.
How long does the sponsorship process take if BKF Engineers files for a Green Card?
The Green Card process through EB-2 or EB-3 typically starts with PERM labor certification, which takes six months to over a year at the DOL depending on audit risk. After PERM approval, USCIS adjudicates the I-140 petition, which can take several months without premium processing. Priority date backlogs for applicants born in India can add years beyond that before a visa number becomes available.
