This isn't just a management role; it’s a seat at the table for the future of the private cloud. Reporting to Senior Leadership, you will have the mandate to define and execute on the product vision while making strategic investments in the upstream community to deliver a killer k8s experience.
ROLE
The successful candidate will lead a world-class engineering organization, fostering a culture of technical excellence and rapid innovation. You will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of the vSphere Kubernetes Service (VKS), ensuring it meets the rigorous demands of global enterprise customers while simultaneously elevating Broadcom’s influence within the upstream Kubernetes community. Your success will be measured by the stability of our platform, the velocity of our releases, and our standing as a top-tier contributor to the CNCF ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineering Leadership: Lead multiple high-performing engineering teams focused on VKS core development, lifecycle management, and deep integration with vSphere, NSX, and vSAN.
- Upstream Strategy: Define and execute Broadcom’s upstream contribution roadmap. You will ensure our engineers are influential in key Kubernetes Special Interest Groups (SIGs).
- Platform Excellence: Own the end-to-end SDLC for VKS, ensuring production-grade reliability, security compliance, and seamless "day 2" operations for enterprise customers.
- Vision: Partner with the Architects, Product Management, Program Management and other Directors which drive related areas to ensure there is a common roadmap and execution plan.
- Community Advocacy: Act as an ambassador for Broadcom in the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) ecosystem.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Engineering Leadership at Scale: Proven track record of successfully leading and scaling multiple engineering teams, including experience managing "managers of managers" in a distributed or global environment.
- Cloud-Native Domain Expertise: Deep technical understanding and 7+ years of experience in delivering enterprise software/solutions related to Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, or large-scale distributed systems (e.g., IaaS/PaaS offerings).
- Strategic Impact: Demonstrated ability to define and execute a complex technical strategy, translating business goals into a clear engineering roadmap and measurable outcomes.
- Organizational Development: Experience recruiting, mentoring, and retaining high-caliber technical talent and fostering a culture of technical excellence and accountability.
- Education/Experience: Bachelors and 18+ years OR Masters and 16+ years related experience, in which a minimum of 6+ years is in management.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE
- Kubernetes/CNCF Influence: Active involvement or significant contributions to the Kubernetes ecosystem or a broader CNCF project (e.g., as a maintainer, substantial contributor, or SIG leader).
- Platform Mastery: Experience building or operating large-scale control planes, IaaS/PaaS offerings, or managing platforms comparable to EKS, GKE, or OpenShift.
- Hypervisor/Virtualization Knowledge: Familiarity with the vSphere ecosystem (vSphere, NSX, vSAN) or other enterprise virtualization platforms.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The annual base salary range for this position is $174,400 - $279,000.
As a valued member of our team, you'll be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus and the opportunity to receive not only a competitive new hire equity grant, but also annual equity awards, connecting your success directly to the company's growth. All subject to relevant plan documents and award agreements.
Broadcom offers a competitive and comprehensive benefits package: Medical, dental and vision plans, 401(K) participation including company matching, Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), company paid holidays, paid sick leave and vacation time. The company follows all applicable laws for Paid Family Leave and other leaves of absence.

Align your resume to Broadcom's engineering disciplines
Broadcom hires across ASIC design, embedded systems, firmware, and networking stacks. Tailor your resume to the specific technical domain of each role rather than submitting a general engineering CV. Keyword alignment with the job description strengthens both recruiter screening and LCA specialty occupation classification.
Target roles that match your degree field exactly
H-1B specialty occupation requires a direct relationship between your degree and the role. At a semiconductor and infrastructure company like Broadcom, a mismatch between your major and the job title can trigger USCIS scrutiny. Electrical Engineering and Computer Science degrees map cleanest to their core engineering openings.
Clarify CPT and OPT authorization before your first interview
If you're on F-1 OPT or CPT, confirm your work authorization dates and any STEM OPT extension eligibility before you reach the offer stage. Broadcom's hiring process moves at a deliberate pace, and delays caused by authorization gaps late in the process can cost you the role.
Ask about the H-1B filing timeline during offer negotiation
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed in April for an October 1 start. If you're receiving a Broadcom offer outside that window, ask directly whether the role qualifies for cap-exempt filing or whether your start date will be structured around the next lottery cycle.
Browse Broadcom Engineering roles through Migrate Mate
Filtering for visa-sponsoring employers in the semiconductor and infrastructure space saves significant research time. Use Migrate Mate to surface open Engineering roles at Broadcom that are actively sponsoring, so you can prioritize applications where the sponsorship pathway is already confirmed.
Prepare PERM documentation early for green card pathways
Broadcom sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 green cards for Engineering roles, which requires a DOL PERM labor certification. That process can take a year or more before an I-140 is even filed. If long-term U.S. residency is your goal, raise green card sponsorship intent with your hiring manager before accepting an offer.

Does Broadcom sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, Broadcom sponsors H-1B visas for Engineering roles. The company works with immigration counsel to file cap-subject and cap-exempt petitions depending on the candidate's situation. Engineers on F-1 OPT are a common pipeline, and Broadcom structures offer timelines around the April H-1B filing window where relevant. Specialty occupation documentation is particularly important for roles that blend hardware and software responsibilities.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Broadcom?
Applications go through Broadcom's careers portal. Focus on roles that match your technical background closely, since the company hires for specific engineering disciplines including ASIC design, firmware, networking, and software infrastructure. Tailoring your application to the exact domain of the role improves your chances at both the recruiter screen and the technical interview stages. You can also browse open Engineering roles at Broadcom on Migrate Mate.
Which visa types does Broadcom commonly sponsor for Engineering roles?
Broadcom sponsors H-1B, TN, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Engineering positions, along with EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories for longer-term green card pathways. TN visas apply to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering occupations. The right visa type depends on your citizenship, degree field, and the specific role, so clarifying your situation early in the process helps avoid offer-stage delays.
What qualifications does Broadcom expect for Engineering roles?
Broadcom typically expects a bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science for most Engineering openings, with advanced degrees preferred for research-oriented or principal-level roles. Hands-on experience with hardware design tools, embedded systems, or networking protocols matters significantly in candidate evaluation. For H-1B purposes, your degree field must directly relate to the specific engineering role you're applying for.
How do I navigate the visa filing timeline after receiving a Broadcom Engineering offer?
The timing of your offer relative to the H-1B cap cycle matters. Cap-subject petitions are filed in April with an October 1 start date, so an offer arriving in late summer or fall may require waiting nearly a year. If you're already H-1B eligible through a prior employer, Broadcom can file an H-1B transfer petition without waiting for the next lottery cycle. USCIS premium processing is available and typically returns a decision within 15 business days.
