- Provide scientific direction, including clinical and biological insights, for a broad range of translational projects
- Recruit top talent with aging research as a key focus
- Join Calico’s Scientific Review Committee and other leadership functions
- Contribute substantively, through leadership and research, to Calico’s ambitious research efforts to understand the fundamental biology of human aging and discover mechanisms that contribute to human longevity, as a basis for devising interventions
Position Requirements
- MD/PhD, PhD or equivalent degrees in molecular and cellular biology, immunology, neurobiology, structural biology, or related fields with 15 or more years of postdoctoral and/or industry experience in the area of drug development and/or basic biomedical research, especially in aging or aging-related diseases
- Rising or proven leader in academia or industry
- Creative and critical thinking skills
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written
- Success in managing and mentoring other scientists and research programs
- Strong record of creative scientific achievements as evidenced by impactful publications, patents (or applications), and national or international recognition
- Technical expertise in technologies related to basic or translational biomedical research
- Must be willing to work onsite five days a week, except for conferences or off-site work-related meetings
The estimated base salary range for this role is $314,000 - $360,000. Actual pay will be based on a number of factors including experience and qualifications. This position is also eligible for two annual cash bonuses.

Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
For H-1B eligibility, USCIS requires that a Research role demands a specific bachelor's degree or higher. Document how your degree field directly connects to Calico's longevity and aging research focus, not just biology or science broadly.
Target Calico's core research verticals when applying
Calico concentrates hiring around molecular biology, computational biology, and aging mechanisms. Tailoring your application to one of these verticals signals fit and increases the chance a hiring manager flags your role as sponsorship-eligible from the start.
Ask about the LCA and filing timeline during offer stage
Once you have a verbal offer, ask the recruiter which visa type they plan to file and when. The DOL must certify the Labor Condition Application before USCIS can process an H-1B petition, so confirming this sequence early helps you plan your start date.
Browse verified sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Search Migrate Mate to find open Research roles at Calico Life Sciences filtered by the visa types you hold. It saves significant time confirming sponsorship eligibility before you invest in a full application.
Prepare publication and project documentation early
Calico's Research hiring process often involves technical review panels. Compile your published work, lab contributions, and any patents or preprints before you apply. Strong documentation also supports your visa petition if the role requires demonstrating specialized expertise.

Does Calico Life Sciences sponsor H-1B visas for Researchs?
Yes, Calico Life Sciences sponsors H-1B visas for Research roles. The company has an established sponsorship history across multiple visa types for this function. Research positions at Calico typically qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards, given the degree-specific requirements tied to aging biology and related disciplines.
Which visa types does Calico Life Sciences support for Research roles?
Calico sponsors several visa categories for Research professionals, including H-1B, H-1B1, TN, J-1, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT. The right category depends on your nationality and current status. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN, while those finishing degree programs often begin on F-1 OPT before transitioning to H-1B.
What qualifications does Calico Life Sciences expect for Research positions?
Most Research roles at Calico require at least a master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant field such as molecular biology, biochemistry, computational biology, or a closely related discipline. The company's focus on aging research means candidates with published work or demonstrated lab experience in longevity-related science are strongly positioned. Postdoctoral experience is common for senior Research roles.
How do I apply for Research jobs at Calico Life Sciences?
You can find open Research positions at Calico Life Sciences on Migrate Mate, which lists roles filtered by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm eligibility before applying. Applications typically involve submitting a resume or CV and may include a technical screen or panel interview focused on your research background and scientific approach.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Research hire at Calico?
Timeline depends on the visa type. H-1B petitions follow an annual cap cycle with an April 1 filing window and an October 1 start date, though premium processing can accelerate USCIS review to around 15 business days. TN and J-1 categories move faster. Starting the LCA process with DOL as early as possible after an offer reduces delays.
