Align your certifications to CDW's stack
CDW's Technician roles frequently require vendor-specific credentials like CompTIA, Cisco, or Microsoft certifications. Audit your current certs against active job postings before applying so your application speaks directly to the hardware and software environments CDW deploys.
Target roles tied to government contracts
CDW holds substantial public sector and federal contracts, and those engagements often drive consistent Technician hiring. Roles supporting federal or state clients tend to have longer project horizons, which strengthens the employer's case for sponsoring longer-term visa filings like EB-2 or EB-3.
Clarify OPT authorization before your first interview
CDW participates in E-Verify, so your F-1 OPT work authorization must be active and verifiable before a start date is confirmed. Have your EAD card and I-20 with OPT approval ready, and flag your authorization window upfront so hiring timelines aren't compressed at the offer stage.
Ask about PERM sponsorship during offer negotiation
CDW sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards, but PERM labor certification timelines run 12 to 24 months or longer. Raise the Green Card pathway during offer discussions, not after onboarding, so your employer's legal team can begin documenting the business need and prevailing wage determination early.
Use Migrate Mate to surface active Technician openings at CDW
Not every CDW Technician posting is indexed consistently across general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to filter for verified sponsorship-eligible openings at CDW specifically, so you're applying to roles where visa support is already confirmed rather than discovering that detail after a final-round interview.
Document hands-on deployment experience precisely
USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation classification for Technician roles closely. Your resume and any support letters should describe specific technical tasks, systems administered, and degree-level knowledge applied, not just job titles. Vague descriptions of general IT support weaken the H-1B specialty occupation argument.

Find Technician at CDW JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does CDW sponsor H-1B visas for Technicians?
Yes, CDW sponsors H-1B visas for Technician roles. The key requirement is that the position qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, meaning it requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. Roles involving systems engineering, network infrastructure, or solutions architecture tend to meet that threshold more clearly than generalist support positions.
How do I apply for Technician jobs at CDW?
Applications go through CDW's careers portal, where Technician openings are listed by business unit and region. You can also browse sponsorship-eligible Technician postings at CDW through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles where visa support has been verified. Tailor your application to the specific technical environment listed in the posting, including any vendor platforms or hardware the team manages.
Which visa types are commonly used for Technician roles at CDW?
CDW sponsors H-1B visas for skilled Technician roles that qualify as specialty occupations. F-1 students can start on OPT or CPT before transitioning to H-1B sponsorship. TN status is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying technical classifications. For longer-term pathways, CDW supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through PERM labor certification for eligible employees.
What qualifications does CDW expect for Technician positions?
CDW's Technician roles typically require a bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a related engineering field, alongside relevant vendor certifications. Practical experience with enterprise hardware deployment, network configuration, or IT systems administration strengthens your profile. Roles supporting federal or enterprise clients may also require security clearance eligibility or familiarity with government IT compliance frameworks.
How do I time my application to align with H-1B filing deadlines?
USCIS opens H-1B registration in early March for an October 1 start date. To meet that window, you need a signed offer letter and a filed Labor Condition Application with the DOL at least several weeks before registration opens. If you're on OPT, a cap-gap extension protects your status through September 30 if your OPT expires while your H-1B petition is pending, giving you continuous work authorization.
