Verify Your RN Licensure Before Applying
Virginia requires an active RN license for any school nurse role. If you're on OPT or TN status, confirm your credential is valid in Virginia before submitting applications. An unlicensed candidate won't clear Centra Health's clinical screening, regardless of visa status.
Target Centra Health's School-Based Openings Directly
Centra Health fills school nurse roles tied to specific district partnerships, not general float positions. Search their careers portal filtering by community or school health. These postings move faster than hospital roles, so applying within the first week of a listing going live matters.
Clarify TN Status Eligibility Early in Interviews
Canadian and Mexican nurses can enter under TN status as a Registered Nurse, which requires no PERM labor certification and allows same-day border entry. Raise this in early conversations with Centra Health's HR so the right visa pathway is scoped before an offer is drafted.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Verified Sponsoring Employers
Not every healthcare employer listing school nurse roles will sponsor. Use Migrate Mate to find Centra Health openings filtered by visa type, so you're only spending time on roles where sponsorship for your specific status has been confirmed rather than assumed.
Request a Written Sponsorship Commitment Before Accepting
Before signing an offer, ask Centra Health HR to confirm in writing which visa category they're sponsoring and whether they cover USCIS filing fees. This protects you if there's a change in hiring contacts or internal policy between offer acceptance and your start date.

Find School Nurse at Centra Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Centra Health sponsor H-1B visas for School Nurses?
Centra Health's primary sponsorship pathways for school nurses lean toward EB-2, EB-3, TN, and F-1 OPT rather than H-1B. School nurse roles are classified as specialty occupation positions, which technically qualify for H-1B, but healthcare employers in community settings more commonly pursue employment-based Green Card routes. Confirm directly with Centra Health HR which categories are available for a specific opening.
How do I apply for School Nurse jobs at Centra Health?
Apply through Centra Health's official careers portal, filtering by nursing or community health roles. Your application should include your RN license number, a resume tailored to pediatric or community health experience, and a note on your current visa status so recruiters can assess sponsorship fit early. Migrate Mate also lists Centra Health school nurse openings filtered by visa sponsorship type, which can help you confirm eligibility before applying.
Which visa types does Centra Health commonly use for School Nurse roles?
Centra Health sponsors school nurses across several categories including EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based Green Cards, F-1 OPT and CPT for recent nursing graduates, TN status for Canadian and Mexican RNs, and J-1 for qualifying exchange visitors. The right pathway depends on your nationality, degree level, and where you are in the immigration process. TN is typically the fastest for eligible candidates since it requires no USCIS petition and no PERM filing.
What qualifications does Centra Health expect for School Nurse candidates?
Centra Health generally expects an active Virginia RN license, a BSN or higher, and prior experience in pediatric, community, or school health settings. Some postings require a School Nurse License or School Health Authorization issued by the Virginia Department of Education. International candidates should also confirm their foreign nursing credentials have been evaluated by a NCSBN-recognized credential verification organization, which is required before sitting for NCLEX and obtaining licensure.
How long does the sponsorship process take for a School Nurse role at Centra Health?
Timeline depends heavily on the visa category. TN status for Canadian or Mexican nurses can be obtained at the border on your start date with the right documentation. F-1 OPT authorization takes 3 to 5 months from application through USCIS. EB-3 Green Card sponsorship via DOL PERM labor certification typically runs 12 to 18 months before reaching USCIS, so planning ahead around your current status expiration is critical.
