INTRODUCTION
We’re not just building better tech. We’re rewriting how data moves and what the world can do with it. With Confluent, data doesn’t sit still. Our platform puts information in motion, streaming in near real-time so companies can react faster, build smarter, and deliver experiences as dynamic as the world around them.
It takes a certain kind of person to join this team. Those who ask hard questions, give honest feedback, and show up for each other. No egos, no solo acts. Just smart, curious humans pushing toward something bigger, together.
One Confluent. One Team. One Data Streaming Platform.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
As a Senior Software Engineer II at Confluent, you will take ownership of critical backend systems in Stream Governance products that underpin our data streaming platform. You’ll lead the design and delivery of large-scale, distributed services that must be secure, highly available, and easy to operate across regions and clouds.
The Stream Governance product portfolio is crucial to achieving Confluent’s mission to put event streaming at the heart of every organization. Our mission is to provide a robust, cloud-native platform that ensures data quality and integrity by standardizing structure and enforcing intelligent rules across every stream. You will be responsible for delivering critical functionalities like Confluent Schema Registry, Data Contracts, and Policies.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with the team and key stakeholders to design, architect, and develop cloud-native, multi-tenant services for Stream Governance. You will be responsible for guiding the vision, providing technical leadership, mentoring, and enabling a high-performing engineering team to tackle complex distributed data challenges at scale.
You’ll act as a technical leader: setting direction for projects, making architecture decisions, mentoring engineers, and partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to ship high-impact work.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Align your experience with streaming systems
Confluent's engineering roles center on Apache Kafka and distributed systems. Framing your resume around event-driven architecture, low-latency pipelines, or large-scale data infrastructure gives your application direct relevance before a recruiter screens for sponsorship fit.
Target teams filing Labor Condition Applications early
H-1B petitions require a certified LCA from the DOL before USCIS filing. Ask your recruiter which engineering teams have open headcount before the April lottery window so your offer timeline aligns with cap registration in March.
Clarify OPT STEM extension eligibility upfront
F-1 graduates in computer science or engineering qualify for a 24-month STEM OPT extension, giving you up to three years of work authorization. Confirm Confluent's E-Verify enrollment during initial recruiter conversations, as STEM extension requires an E-Verify compliant employer.
Build a portfolio around open source contributions
Confluent engineers contribute to and maintain open source projects in the Kafka ecosystem. Demonstrating active contributions on GitHub strengthens your technical credibility and can accelerate hiring decisions, which matters when your authorization timeline is fixed.
Understand how Green Card sponsorship is structured
For EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship, employers initiate PERM labor certification through the DOL before filing an I-140 petition with USCIS. Asking during the offer stage which engineering levels typically move into sponsored permanent residence tracks helps you plan your long-term status.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsoring roles
Not every Software Engineer opening at Confluent will be flagged as sponsor-eligible in a general job search. Use Migrate Mate to surface roles at Confluent that are tied to active sponsorship history, so you're applying where authorization support is confirmed.

Does Confluent sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineers?
Yes, Confluent sponsors H-1B visas for Software Engineers. The company has a documented history of filing H-1B petitions for engineering roles, covering both initial cap-subject petitions and extensions. If you're in the H-1B lottery cycle, timing your offer around the March registration window is critical, as cap-subject petitions must be filed before the federal fiscal year begins on October 1.
Which visa types does Confluent commonly use for Software Engineer roles?
Confluent sponsors H-1B visas for the broadest range of Software Engineer hires. F-1 OPT and STEM OPT extensions are common entry points for recent graduates, providing up to three years of work authorization while H-1B sponsorship is pursued. TN visas are available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles. For longer-term employees, EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through PERM labor certification is a documented pathway.
What qualifications does Confluent expect for Software Engineer roles?
Confluent's Software Engineer roles generally require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. Hands-on experience with distributed systems, JVM-based languages such as Java or Scala, and familiarity with Apache Kafka or similar streaming platforms are consistently emphasized. Senior roles expect system design depth and production-scale experience. A matching degree field matters for H-1B specialty occupation eligibility, so avoid mismatches between your credential and the role description.
How do I apply for Software Engineer jobs at Confluent?
You can apply directly through Confluent's careers page. To filter specifically for roles open to visa sponsorship, Migrate Mate aggregates Software Engineer listings at Confluent with sponsorship signals already attached, so you're not guessing which positions will support authorization. Before applying, review whether the role aligns with your visa type's requirements, particularly degree field match for H-1B and E-Verify enrollment confirmation for STEM OPT extension.
How do I time my job search at Confluent around visa deadlines?
If you're targeting H-1B sponsorship, work backward from the April 1 filing window. USCIS opens cap registration in March, so you need a signed offer and a certified LCA from the DOL in place before that deadline. For F-1 students, OPT applications must be filed with USCIS up to 90 days before your program end date. Starting recruiter outreach at Confluent at least four to six months before your authorization expires gives enough runway for both parties.
