Hours: Varied - Schedule: Monday-Friday; opening to early afternoon; one remote work day per week; holidays. Hours are subject to change depending on library hours for semester and on service needs of department.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Assistant University Librarian for Access Services, the primary function of this Resource Sharing Specialist position at Gumberg Library is to provide access to research materials needed by the Duquesne University community by operating all aspects of interlibrary loan borrowing. This position works to search and place 4,000 complex Interlibrary Loan Borrowing requests annually, with emphasis on rapid turnaround time, accuracy, cost, and quality of material. This service is critical to maintaining high-quality academic coursework, research, and scholarly activities across campus; ILL borrowing staff require extensive training that can span years to complete entirely. The person in this position will provide comprehensive customer service at any service point (physical or virtual) and resolves patron issues while supporting a welcoming and helpful atmosphere at Gumberg.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Fulfill requests for research materials from anyone in the Duquesne University community, covering all disciplines, using networks and resource sharing software programs. Evaluate each request for individualized resolution and carry all requests to completion.

• Serve as first point of contact for complex issue resolution regarding the interlibrary loan service and software for Duquesne University users as well as our lending library partners.

• Trace citations through various bibliographic references, know how to verify citations, and have a working knowledge of bibliographic record data.

• Build and sustain working relationships with peers and contacts at partner libraries regional, nationally, and internationally. Work respectfully to resolve issues with requests such as overdue, damaged, recalled, or lost items.

• Coordinate internally with other library departments to share data and patterns used to help identify materials for purchase or replacement.

• Assist AUL for Access Services in generating reports, and reviewing, identifying, and updating system workflows and content.

• Assist Access Services Manager in training and supervising student workers when work pertains to Interlibrary Loan Borrowing.

• Actively participate in ongoing professional development opportunities, training, and committees that support job-related goals and Gumberg Library and University initiatives.

• Respond to emergencies, alarms, and other work-related issues which require swift problem resolution.

• Effectively communicate issues, developments, and ideas for improvement to the AUL for Access Services, the Access Services Manager, and colleagues.

• Completes other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent

• Current experience: minimum of 2 years working in a public service area of a library, or any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions

• Flexibility to work depending on service needs of department

• Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills

• Solid experience with standard software (e.g. MS Office, e-mail, calendar) as well as an ability to generate reports and to work with data

• Ability to maneuver 35 lb. book carts and move books, including reaching and lifting

Preferred qualifications:

• Earned undergraduate degree from an accredited institution

• Experience in academic and/or research library using software and databases such as the integrated library systems, FOLIO, SpringShare suite, resource sharing software ReShare and/or ILLiad. Using these systems compile and manage data

• In-depth knowledge of library and departmental policies and procedures, familiarity with library organizational systems

• Basic knowledge of copyright law and “fair use” guidelines applicable to libraries
