Align your degree to the role
McLean's E-3 roles in psychiatry and clinical research require a degree directly related to the position, not just a health sciences background. Pull the O*NET occupation profile for your target role and confirm your field of study maps to the listed education requirements before applying.
Document your clinical credentials early
McLean operates under Harvard Medical School affiliation, so credentialing timelines run longer than at community hospitals. Gather your academic transcripts, licensure verifications, and any CGFNS evaluations well before an offer is extended, since delays here can push back your LCA filing date.
Research prevailing wage before salary talks
Run the OFLC Wage Search for your job title and the Belmont, Massachusetts area before any compensation discussion. McLean's LCA must certify your offered wage meets or exceeds the DOL prevailing wage, so knowing the threshold lets you evaluate offers accurately and flag any shortfall early.
Target departments with recurring research openings
McLean's basic and translational research programs, including its neuroscience and mood disorder centers, have historically brought in specialist staff on work visas. Focusing your search on research coordinator, postdoctoral, and clinical research scientist roles increases your chances of reaching a hiring manager familiar with E-3 sponsorship.
Confirm E-3 eligibility with Migrate Mate before your interview
Use Migrate Mate to verify your role qualifies as a specialty occupation under E-3 rules before your first interview with McLean. Arriving with that clarity lets you answer sponsorship questions confidently and avoids late-stage complications if the hiring team needs to confirm visa feasibility.
Ask HR about LCA timing during the offer stage
McLean's HR team files the LCA with DOL before your consulate appointment can proceed. Ask specifically when LCA certification typically begins after an offer is signed, since DOL targets a seven-business-day turnaround but hospital HR calendars can add weeks if the filing isn't prioritized promptly.
Brigham and Women's Hospital E-3 Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does McLean Hospital sponsor E-3 visas?
Yes, McLean Hospital sponsors E-3 visas for qualified Australian nationals in clinical, research, and specialized healthcare roles. Sponsorship is tied to specific positions that meet the E-3 specialty occupation requirement, meaning the role must typically require at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Not every open position will qualify, so confirming eligibility early in the process matters.
Which roles at McLean Hospital typically qualify for E-3 sponsorship?
Clinical research scientists, psychiatrists, psychologists, neuropsychologists, and postdoctoral research fellows are among the roles at McLean most likely to support E-3 sponsorship. These positions align with McLean's Harvard-affiliated research programs and require specific advanced degrees, satisfying the specialty occupation standard that USCIS applies to E-3 petitions.
How do I start the E-3 application process at McLean Hospital?
Once McLean extends a job offer, their HR or legal team files a Labor Condition Application with DOL, which typically certifies within seven business days. You then complete the DS-160, pay the MRV fee, and schedule a consulate interview in Australia. McLean provides the certified LCA and offer letter as your core supporting documents for the consulate appointment.
How long does E-3 sponsorship take at McLean Hospital?
From signed offer to visa stamp, most applicants should plan for four to eight weeks, depending on consulate appointment availability in Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth. McLean's internal credentialing and HR review can add time before the LCA is filed, so factoring in two to three weeks for pre-filing preparation gives a more realistic picture of the full timeline.
How do I find E-3 jobs at McLean Hospital?
Search McLean Hospital's careers page directly and filter for research and clinical roles that match your specialty. Migrate Mate also surfaces employers with verified E-3 LCA filing history, letting you see which role categories McLean has sponsored before. Cross-referencing both sources helps you target applications to positions most likely to move forward with E-3 sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 sponsorship at Mclean Hospital?
E-3 employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, determined when they file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, ensuring Australian hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
