Align your portfolio to HKS studio specializations
HKS organizes its work into sector-focused studios including healthcare, sports, and mixed-use development. Tailor your portfolio to match the studio you're targeting. A mismatch between your sample projects and their active pipeline weakens your case for sponsorship approval.
Confirm your role qualifies as specialty occupation
E-3 sponsorship requires your position to meet the specialty occupation standard, meaning a directly related bachelor's degree is the minimum entry requirement. Use O*NET to verify the job zone and degree requirement for your target architecture or design role before applying.
Request the LCA before accepting a verbal offer
HKS must file a certified Labor Condition Application with DOL before your visa application proceeds. Ask HR early whether the LCA process has started. Delays here compress your timeline, especially if you're coordinating a consulate appointment across Australian cities.
Check prevailing wage requirements for your target city
HKS has offices in cities with significantly different wage levels, including Dallas, New York, and Chicago. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for your occupation and location before negotiating your offer, so your salary meets DOL certification requirements.
Use Migrate Mate to search verified HKS E-3 openings
Migrate Mate surfaces roles at firms with confirmed E-3 LCA filing history, including HKS. Search by occupation and location to find active architecture and design positions where sponsorship is already part of the employer's workflow, not a one-off exception.
Prepare your degree equivalency documentation in advance
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees are generally accepted for E-3 specialty occupation purposes, but consular officers can request supporting credentials. Have your academic transcripts and, if relevant, a credential evaluation ready before your interview to avoid delays at the Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth consulate.
HKS, Inc. E-3 Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does HKS sponsor E-3 visas?
Yes, HKS sponsors E-3 visas for qualified Australian professionals in architecture, design, and related project roles. Sponsorship is not guaranteed for every open position, so confirm E-3 eligibility directly with the HKS recruiting or HR team when you apply. Roles tied to active U.S. project pipelines are the most likely candidates.
Which roles at HKS are most likely to receive E-3 sponsorship?
E-3 sponsorship at HKS is most common for roles requiring a specific architecture, interior design, or engineering degree, such as project architect, interior designer, and healthcare planner positions. General administrative or business development roles are less likely to meet the specialty occupation requirement that E-3 mandates.
How do I start the E-3 application process at HKS?
Once HKS extends an offer, their HR or immigration team initiates a Labor Condition Application with DOL. After LCA certification, you schedule a visa interview at a U.S. consulate in Australia. USCIS is not involved in E-3 consular processing, which makes the timeline shorter than H-1B visa petition-based pathways.
How long does E-3 sponsorship take at a firm like HKS?
From offer acceptance to visa stamp, plan for four to eight weeks depending on LCA processing speed and your consulate appointment availability. Sydney typically has shorter wait times than Melbourne. Delays in LCA filing or incomplete documentation are the most common causes of extended timelines at architecture firms.
How do I find open E-3 positions at HKS?
Migrate Mate lists architecture and design roles at employers with verified E-3 LCA filing history, making it easier to identify HKS openings where sponsorship is a realistic outcome. You can also apply directly through HKS's careers page and specify your E-3 eligibility as an Australian citizen in your cover materials.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 sponsorship at Hks?
E-3 employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, determined when they file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, ensuring Australian hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
