Align your degree to the role
Jefferies's E-3 roles in investment banking and research require a directly related degree, not just a finance background. An economics or accounting degree supports an analyst role; a general business degree may trigger an RFE. Confirm the match before applying.
Target front-office analyst pipelines
Jefferies hires E-3 candidates most reliably through its investment banking analyst and equity research associate tracks. Focus your applications on these structured pipelines, where sponsorship decisions are made at the business unit level, not case by case.
Request LCA filing before your start date
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with DOL before you can begin work. Ask your Jefferies recruiter early in the offer process whether LCA filing is underway, since delays here directly push back your start date.
Benchmark your salary against prevailing wage
E-3 requires Jefferies to pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your role and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the Level I or Level II wage for your specific occupation code before negotiating your offer.
Prepare for consular interview specifics
Jefferies will provide the certified LCA and an offer letter, but you own the DS-160 and interview preparation. Consular officers at Sydney and Melbourne will ask about your role's specialty occupation basis, so know how your degree connects to the position's core duties.
Use Migrate Mate to manage your E-3 filing
Once you have a Jefferies offer, use Migrate Mate to handle the E-3 filing paperwork. Migrate Mate assigns a dedicated E-3 visa expert to prepare your documents and coordinates with your employer, reducing back-and-forth with the firm's HR team.
Jefferies E-3 Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Jefferies sponsor E-3 visas?
Yes, Jefferies sponsors E-3 visas for eligible Australian nationals in qualifying specialty occupation roles. Sponsorship is most common in investment banking, equity research, and capital markets. The firm has an existing immigration support infrastructure, which means the process for obtaining E-3 sponsorship through Jefferies is relatively well-established compared to employers without prior sponsorship experience.
Which roles at Jefferies typically receive E-3 sponsorship?
E-3 sponsorship at Jefferies is concentrated in front-office roles such as investment banking analyst, equity research associate, and capital markets positions. These roles meet the specialty occupation standard because they require at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field like finance, economics, or accounting. Middle and back-office roles may qualify but are sponsored less consistently.
How do I start the E-3 application process at Jefferies?
Once Jefferies extends a job offer, their HR or immigration team initiates the Labor Condition Application with DOL. You then complete the DS-160, pay the visa fee, and schedule a consular interview at a U.S. embassy in Australia. Migrate Mate can manage the document preparation and employer coordination steps, which helps avoid delays during the filing window.
How long does E-3 sponsorship take at Jefferies?
The DOL typically certifies an LCA within seven business days. After that, consular appointment wait times in Sydney and Melbourne determine the overall timeline. Most applicants complete the process within four to six weeks of receiving a certified LCA, though peak periods at the consulate can extend this. USCIS is not involved in the standard consular E-3 process.
What should I do if my background is in a non-traditional finance role?
If your Jefferies role sits outside core investment banking, such as technology, quantitative research, or compliance, confirm that your degree field directly maps to the position's duties before applying. Use O*NET to find the occupation code and verify the degree requirements USCIS expects. A mismatch between your degree and the role's specialty occupation definition is the most common E-3 denial trigger.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 sponsorship at Jefferies?
E-3 employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, determined when they file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, ensuring Australian hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
