JOB SUMMARY

Develops and directs a financially and nutritionally sound food service program that meets the needs of students, while complying with state and federal guidelines.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Assesses training needs and provides training to meet those needs. Ensures that all employees meet health department and Kentucky Department of Education requirements for food service employees.
• Prepares and manages the annual budget for the Office of Food Services.
• Supervises the full cost accounting system for the Office of Food Service, ensuring that a clear audit trail exists.
• Supervises the filing of monthly reimbursement claims with the Kentucky Department of Education for all Federal Food Programs.
• Maintains depreciation schedule on all food service capital equipment.
• Authorizes purchases within the food service budget and in accordance with approved purchasing procedures.
• Determines schedules and writes specifications for all Food Service purchases, including food, equipment, and supplies.
• Evaluates and recommends the award of all food service bids to the Board of Education.
• Recruits, selects and assigns personnel within the Office of Food Services in accordance with approved organizational structure.
• Maintains food service staff results by coaching, counseling and disciplining employees.
• Evaluates staff members under immediate supervision. Oversees evaluation of cafeteria managers and cafeteria personnel.
• Complies with state and federal regulations regarding the National School Lunch Program, the National School Breakfast Program, and the Commodities program.
• Recommends policies or policy revisions related to the Office of Food Service. In cooperation with principals and management, establishes procedures to be followed in the operation of cafeterias.
• Processes and keeps current all agreements and policy statements with the Kentucky Department of Education and USDA Commodity Distribution Director related to participation in the National School Lunch Program and the provision of food services in the Fayette County Public Schools.
• Maintains documentation of food service program activities as required by State and Federal regulations.
• Participates in building construction and renovation planning as related to cafeteria layout and design.
• Provides information to staff concerning new food products, equipment and processes in food handling preparation. Acts as a resource person for other staff and community organizations.
• Makes frequent visits to cafeterias for purposes of guidance and evaluation.
• Deals directly with parents and principals to address issues and concerns related to the food service program.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies.
• Demonstrates the ability to communicate in more than one language or the willingness to learn to communicate in more than one language at the novice level of proficiency.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Maintains regular attendance.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: Must have a Bachelor's Degree in Food Service Administration, Business Administration or related field and a minimum of 3 years of successful administrative/managerial experience. Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of quantity food preparation and food service management.

Licenses or Certifications:

- Valid Food Service Permit issued by the Department of Health;
- Must complete the training course for certification of beginning school food service personnel as prescribed in 702 KAR 6:045.
