Position Summary
The Form Carpenter is responsible for the precise construction of temporary structures (forms) that hold wet concrete in place. This role requires the ability to read civil engineering plans and translate them into perfectly level, plumb, and stable wood or metal frameworks that withstand the immense pressure of a concrete pour.
Key Responsibilities
- Set grade and alignment using transit levels, string lines, and pins to ensure forms are set to the exact elevation specified in the DDOT drawings.
- Brace or support the structure by installing heavy-duty stakes, kickers, and bracing to prevent blowouts during the vibration and consolidation of the pour.
- Craft flexible forms for curved curbs, bullnoses, and intricate ADA ramp transitions.
- Systematically remove the forms after the set without damaging the newly poured concrete, then clean and oil the forms for reuse.
Critical Success Factors
- Place the forms and verify that they do not exceed the required 1/8th of an inch of the plan’s elevation before concrete can be poured.
- Ability to interpret DDOT standard details (e.g., manhole collars, bridge parapets) without constant supervision.
- Precisely cut materials to minimize lumber waste and maximize the lifecycle of reusable metal forms.
- Expert use of tools such as powder-actuated tools, circular saws, and leveling equipment in a fast-paced roadway environment.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all HR policies, safety policies, OSHA regulations, and site-specific safety requirements.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Participate in daily safety briefings and toolbox talks.
- Report unsafe conditions, near misses, and accidents immediately to the Field Supervisor.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Teamwork & Communication
- Work cooperatively with all crew personnel.
- Communicate effectively about work progress, material needs, and potential issues.
- Assist with training less experienced workers when assigned.
- Follow directions from the Field Supervisor regarding daily work assignments.
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 4 years of experience in heavy civil carpentry
- Rigging & Signaling certification
- Flagger Certification
Licenses & Authorization
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- OSHA 10-Hour

- Fall Protection certification desired (for bridge/overpass work)
Physical Requirements
- Able to drive stakes into compacted subgrade

Target roles that align with EB-2 or EB-3 pathways
First Choice Construction sponsors permanent residence visas, not temporary work visas. Focus your applications on roles that fit EB-2 or EB-3 classifications, typically skilled trades, engineering, project management, or roles requiring a degree in a construction-related field.
Understand that Green Card sponsorship is a long-term commitment
Applying to First Choice Construction means entering a multi-year immigration process. Come prepared to discuss your long-term career plans within the company, employers sponsoring permanent residence want candidates who intend to stay, not move on after two years.
Highlight field experience relevant to construction and real estate
First Choice Construction operates in a hands-on industry where practical credentials matter. Emphasize certifications, project history, and technical expertise in your application materials, these signals matter more here than in white-collar sectors where academic credentials dominate.
Ask about PERM labor certification early in the process
EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship requires PERM labor certification before a Green Card petition can be filed. Asking about where the company is in that process during interviews shows you understand the timeline and are serious about the sponsorship commitment.
Filter for verified construction sponsors before applying
Not every construction employer sponsors visas, and many listings don't disclose it upfront. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and target companies like First Choice Construction without wasting time on dead ends.
Prepare for a longer hiring and sponsorship timeline
Construction companies sponsoring Green Cards operate on extended timelines tied to PERM, I-140 filing, and visa queue wait times. Build your job search around this reality, starting early and maintaining valid status throughout the process is critical for applicants in this pathway.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does First Choice Construction sponsor H-1B visas?
No. First Choice Construction does not have a track record of sponsoring H-1B visas. The company's immigration sponsorship is focused exclusively on permanent residence pathways, specifically EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards. If you're currently on an H-1B or need a temporary work visa to maintain status, First Choice Construction is unlikely to be the right sponsorship fit.
What visa types does First Choice Construction sponsor?
First Choice Construction sponsors Green Cards through the EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories. EB-3 is the more common pathway in construction, covering skilled workers and professionals. EB-2 applies to roles requiring an advanced degree or demonstrating exceptional ability. The company does not appear to sponsor temporary nonimmigrant work visas.
What types of roles at First Choice Construction are most likely to receive Green Card sponsorship?
In the construction and real estate sector, sponsorship typically flows to roles with specialized skills or credentials that are genuinely difficult to fill domestically. This includes project managers, engineers, estimators, and skilled tradespeople. Roles requiring specific technical training or licensure are the strongest candidates for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship at a company like First Choice Construction.
How do I find open jobs at First Choice Construction that include Green Card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most reliable way to find jobs at verified Green Card sponsors in the construction sector. Rather than guessing which listings include sponsorship, Migrate Mate lets you filter by visa type and verified sponsorship history, so you can find First Choice Construction roles where immigration support is already confirmed, before you invest time applying.
How do I approach the application process at First Choice Construction as a visa-sponsored candidate?
Be upfront about your need for Green Card sponsorship early in the process, it avoids wasted time for both sides. Come prepared to discuss your long-term commitment to the role, since PERM-based sponsorship requires the employer to demonstrate a genuine, ongoing need for your position. Understanding the multi-year timeline and showing you're planning accordingly will strengthen your candidacy significantly.
