Align your credentials to Fortinet's security stack
Fortinet hires engineers with deep expertise in network security, firewalls, and cloud infrastructure. Before applying, map your experience to FortiOS, FortiGate, or SD-WAN to show you can contribute from day one, not after a learning curve.
Target roles that match your visa category
Fortinet sponsors multiple visa types, and the role you pursue affects your filing timeline. Software and systems engineering positions typically qualify as H-1B specialty occupations, so confirm your target role's degree requirements align with what USCIS expects before submitting your application.
Start your OPT job search before your STEM extension window closes
Fortinet is E-Verify enrolled, which makes you eligible for the 24-month STEM OPT extension. Apply for Engineering roles at least three to four months before your initial OPT expires so there's runway to onboard and file before your authorization lapses.
Prepare for a technical interview process with multiple rounds
Fortinet's Engineering interviews typically include coding challenges, systems design, and security-focused problem sets. Practicing network security concepts and threat modeling alongside standard data structures will help you clear rounds that generic software prep often misses.
Clarify sponsorship timing during the offer stage
When you reach the offer stage, ask your recruiter directly whether the role is budgeted for H-1B cap-season filing or a cap-exempt transfer. Getting this confirmed in writing prevents late-stage surprises, since USCIS H-1B registration opens each March for an October 1 start date.
Find open Engineering roles at Fortinet through Migrate Mate
Searching broadly for engineering jobs wastes time on employers who won't sponsor. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Fortinet Engineering openings verified for visa sponsorship, so every application you send is to a role where sponsorship is already on the table.

Find Engineering at Fortinet JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Fortinet sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, Fortinet sponsors H-1B visas for Engineering roles. The company participates in the annual H-1B cap lottery, which USCIS runs each March for positions starting October 1. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, Fortinet can file an H-1B transfer that lets you start work as soon as USCIS receives the petition, without waiting for cap selection.
Which visa types does Fortinet commonly use for Engineering roles?
Fortinet sponsors H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for Engineering positions. F-1 students with STEM degrees can access the 24-month STEM OPT extension at Fortinet because the company is E-Verify enrolled. Canadian and Mexican engineers in qualifying roles may be eligible for TN status, which has no annual cap and no lottery.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Fortinet?
Browse open Engineering roles on Fortinet's careers page and apply directly through their portal. Tailor your resume to highlight experience relevant to Fortinet's product areas, including network security, cloud, or endpoint protection. To find roles already filtered for visa sponsorship eligibility, Migrate Mate lists Fortinet Engineering openings so you can identify the right positions before investing time in applications.
What qualifications does Fortinet expect for Engineering roles?
Most Fortinet Engineering positions require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, or a closely related field, which also satisfies the specialty occupation standard USCIS uses to evaluate H-1B petitions. Hands-on experience with network protocols, security architecture, or cloud platforms is typically expected. Senior roles often require prior experience with enterprise security products or specific certifications like NSE or CISSP.
How long does the H-1B sponsorship process take at Fortinet?
For cap-subject H-1B petitions, the process starts with USCIS registration in March, with an October 1 start date if selected. From offer acceptance to work authorization, that's roughly six months. Premium processing, which USCIS adjudicates within 15 business days, is available and commonly used for Engineering hires who need faster confirmation. H-1B transfers from another employer can move significantly faster since they're not cap-subject.
