Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
Fortinet's Customer Engineer roles require a degree in computer science, network engineering, or a closely related field. Make sure your transcripts and any foreign credential evaluations reflect that alignment before you apply, since USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation eligibility for this job title.
Target Fortinet's enterprise and MSSP-focused teams
Fortinet hires Customer Engineers across its enterprise accounts and managed security service provider channels. Roles tied to named accounts or partner enablement often carry more defined technical scopes, which strengthens the specialty occupation case the employer files with USCIS.
Confirm OPT STEM extension eligibility early
Cybersecurity and network engineering roles at technology companies qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension. Verify your program CIP code with your DSO before accepting an offer so Fortinet's HR team can begin E-Verify enrollment without delays.
Front-load technical certifications before interviews
Fortinet values NSE certifications, particularly NSE 4 through NSE 7, when evaluating Customer Engineer candidates. Holding at least one before your interview round signals hands-on product knowledge and can reduce recruiter hesitation around sponsorship investment for less-established applicants.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open roles by visa type
Finding Customer Engineer openings that actively support visa sponsorship takes more than a basic job board search. Use Migrate Mate to filter Fortinet's current openings by the visa categories relevant to your situation and apply directly from a verified listing.

Does Fortinet sponsor H-1B visas for Customer Engineers?
Yes, Fortinet sponsors H-1B visas for Customer Engineer roles. The position generally qualifies as a specialty occupation given its requirement for a degree in computer science, network engineering, or a related technical field. If you're subject to the H-1B cap lottery, factor in the April registration window and plan your offer timing with Fortinet's recruiting team accordingly.
How do I apply for Customer Engineer jobs at Fortinet?
You can browse and apply for Customer Engineer openings at Fortinet through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles that are actively open to visa sponsorship. From there, applications go directly to Fortinet's recruiting team. Tailoring your application to highlight technical certifications like NSE credentials and enterprise customer-facing experience will strengthen your profile for this specific function.
Which visa types does Fortinet commonly use for Customer Engineer roles?
Fortinet sponsors H-1B and TN visas for Customer Engineers, along with F-1 OPT and CPT for students completing STEM-eligible programs. For longer-term immigration, Fortinet also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways through PERM labor certification. The right pathway depends on your nationality, current status, and where you are in the H-1B cap cycle.
What qualifications does Fortinet expect for Customer Engineer candidates needing sponsorship?
Fortinet typically expects a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or network engineering, paired with hands-on experience in enterprise networking or cybersecurity. Familiarity with firewall architecture, SD-WAN, or SASE platforms is common in job descriptions. NSE certifications strengthen candidacy. Because sponsorship requires a well-defined specialty occupation, roles with a clear technical scope and degree requirement are the ones most likely to move forward.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Fortinet Customer Engineer offer?
Timeline depends on the visa type. F-1 OPT can begin within weeks if your EAD is already approved. H-1B cap filings follow the April lottery, with employment starting October 1 at the earliest. TN status for Canadian nationals can be obtained at the border on the day of travel. For PERM-based Green Card filings, the DOL process alone typically takes 12 to 18 months before USCIS adjudication begins.
