Tips for Finding Customer Engineer Jobs at Datadog
Frame your technical breadth for CE interviews
Datadog Customer Engineers are expected to demo products, troubleshoot live environments, and engage enterprise buyers. Prepare examples that show both infrastructure or observability knowledge and the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-engineering stakeholders.
Verify your OPT start date before applying
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your employment authorization start date aligns with Datadog's onboarding timeline. A gap of even a few days between authorization and your first day creates compliance issues under E-Verify, which Datadog is required to use.
Target Datadog's enterprise and mid-market CE openings
Datadog segments Customer Engineer roles by deal size and vertical. Enterprise-focused CE positions tend to require deeper experience with distributed systems or cloud infrastructure, while mid-market roles offer more entry points for candidates earlier in their careers.
Ask your recruiter about LCA timing early
Your employer files the Labor Condition Application with DOL before your H-1B petition can be submitted to USCIS. Raise the timeline with your Datadog recruiter before you sign your offer, so there are no surprises if your start date needs to shift.
Use Migrate Mate to surface CE openings at sponsors
Filtering for Customer Engineer roles at confirmed visa sponsors saves significant time. Migrate Mate aggregates Datadog and similar tech employer listings that actively support H-1B, TN, and OPT candidates, so you're not guessing at sponsorship willingness.
Prepare your credential equivalency documentation ahead of offers
If you completed a three-year bachelor's degree outside the U.S., gather documentation early that establishes equivalency to a U.S. four-year degree. USCIS evaluates this for H-1B specialty occupation eligibility, and having a credential evaluation ready prevents delays after an offer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Datadog sponsor H-1B visas for Customer Engineers?
Yes, Datadog sponsors H-1B visas for Customer Engineer roles. The company has a documented history of filing H-1B petitions for this function across multiple years. Because Customer Engineer is a technical client-facing role requiring specialized knowledge, it typically meets USCIS criteria for specialty occupation status, which is the foundational requirement for H-1B eligibility.
Which visa types does Datadog commonly sponsor for Customer Engineer roles?
Datadog sponsors multiple visa categories for Customer Engineers, including H-1B, H-1B1 visa for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying occupations, and F-1 OPT and CPT for students. For candidates pursuing permanent residence, Datadog also supports EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based Green Card pathways.
How do I apply for Customer Engineer jobs at Datadog?
Applications go through Datadog's careers portal. Customer Engineer openings are typically segmented by region, product line, or customer segment, so review the role descriptions carefully before applying. You can also browse verified Customer Engineer openings at Datadog directly through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles where visa sponsorship is confirmed, saving you time during your search.
What qualifications does Datadog look for in Customer Engineer candidates?
Datadog generally expects Customer Engineer candidates to have a background in software engineering, DevOps, cloud infrastructure, or a related technical field, along with demonstrated ability to work with enterprise clients. Hands-on experience with monitoring, observability, or cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP is frequently referenced in job postings. A bachelor's degree in a technical discipline is typically required to support H-1B specialty occupation classification.
How do I understand the H-1B filing timeline if I receive an offer from Datadog?
If you're subject to the H-1B cap, Datadog would need to register you in USCIS's annual lottery, which opens in March for an October 1 start date. If selected, the full petition is filed in the following months. Candidates already holding H-1B status at another employer can transfer without waiting for the cap cycle, often with a faster effective start date.
