Build demonstrable observability skills before applying
Datadog's Technical Solutions Engineer interviews test hands-on knowledge of monitoring, APM, and log management. Certifications or portfolio projects using Datadog's own platform signal readiness and remove one layer of sponsor risk from a hiring manager's perspective.
Target roles matching your visa category's requirements
Datadog sponsors several visa types for this role, but not every open position qualifies for every category. Confirm the role meets specialty occupation criteria before applying, since Technical Solutions Engineer positions vary in technical depth and degree requirements across teams.
Align your resume to Datadog's technical stack explicitly
Hiring teams for Technical Solutions Engineers at Datadog filter heavily on cloud infrastructure experience, particularly AWS, Azure, and GCP integrations. Listing generic monitoring tools without specifying cloud environments is a common reason strong candidates get screened out early.
Clarify sponsorship intent before your final interview
Datadog has handled visa filings across H-1B, TN, and OPT pathways, but their immigration process starts at the offer stage. Raising your sponsorship needs after a verbal offer is extended is standard practice and avoids wasting either party's time.
Account for H-1B cap timing in your job search calendar
If you need H-1B sponsorship, USCIS registration opens in March for an October 1 start date. Plan your Datadog application timeline so an offer and I-129 filing can realistically align with the lottery window, especially if your OPT or grace period has a hard end date.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by visa type
Datadog posts Technical Solutions Engineer openings regularly, but availability shifts by region and team quarter to quarter. Use Migrate Mate to filter current Datadog openings by the visa category you need, so you're only applying to roles actively open to sponsorship.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Datadog sponsor H-1B visas for Technical Solutions Engineers?
Yes, Datadog sponsors H-1B visas for Technical Solutions Engineer roles. The position typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at minimum a bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field such as computer science, engineering, or information systems. Datadog's immigration process is handled at the offer stage, so you'll work through the details after receiving a formal offer rather than during the interview process.
Which visa types does Datadog commonly sponsor for Technical Solutions Engineer roles?
Datadog sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, TN visa, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Technical Solutions Engineer positions, along with employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying technical occupations. F-1 OPT candidates can typically start on their existing work authorization, with Datadog filing for H-1B sponsorship ahead of OPT expiration.
How do I apply for Technical Solutions Engineer jobs at Datadog?
Applications go through Datadog's careers portal, where Technical Solutions Engineer openings are listed by region and team. Before applying, confirm the role aligns with your background in cloud infrastructure, scripting languages like Python or Go, and customer-facing technical work. You can browse current Datadog openings filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate to identify roles actively open to sponsorship before submitting your application.
What qualifications does Datadog look for in Technical Solutions Engineer candidates?
Datadog expects Technical Solutions Engineer candidates to demonstrate practical experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, along with working knowledge of monitoring, observability, and APM concepts. Proficiency in at least one scripting language is consistently required. Customer-facing experience explaining complex technical systems to engineering or DevOps teams is weighted heavily, since the role is client-interfacing rather than purely internal.
How do I time my application if I'm on OPT and need H-1B sponsorship?
USCIS opens H-1B registration in March each year for an October 1 cap year start. If you're on F-1 OPT, you need to secure an offer and have your employer submit an H-1B registration before that window closes. STEM OPT extensions give you up to 36 months of work authorization, which provides more flexibility, but you should begin targeting roles at companies with active sponsorship programs, including Datadog, at least six months before your OPT expires.
