Align your credentials with U.S. PE pathways
Freese and Nichols values engineers on a trajectory toward Professional Engineer licensure. Before applying, verify your foreign degree meets ABET equivalency standards, since structural roles here often require or prefer PE-eligible candidates from the start.
Target roles with active structural project pipelines
Freese and Nichols runs concurrent infrastructure projects across Texas and the Sun Belt. Apply to openings tied to municipal, water, or transportation structural work, where hiring demand tends to be more consistent and sponsorship decisions get made faster.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open structural roles
Structural Project Engineer openings at Freese and Nichols span multiple offices and project types. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for visa-sponsoring structural roles at the firm, so you're applying to positions where sponsorship is already on the table.
Clarify your OPT or TN status in your application
If you're on F-1 OPT or TN status, state it clearly in your cover letter. Freese and Nichols sponsors both, and hiring managers in engineering consulting need to know your current authorization so they can coordinate with HR on timing before your status expires.
Expect H-1B filing to follow your first project cycle
Engineering consulting firms typically time H-1B petitions around project staffing needs. If you're hired on OPT, USCIS's April 1 filing window means your employer needs to begin the Labor Condition Application process with DOL at least a month before that date.
Prepare a portfolio of structural deliverables before interviews
Freese and Nichols assesses technical depth early in the hiring process for structural roles. Bring calculation packages, structural drawings, or bridge or building design samples that show software proficiency in tools like STAAD or RISA alongside your engineering judgment.

Find Structural Project Engineer at Freese and Nichols JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Freese and Nichols sponsor H-1B visas for Structural Project Engineers?
Yes, Freese and Nichols sponsors H-1B visas for Structural Project Engineers. The firm has an established process for supporting international hires through USCIS petitions, coordinated through its HR team. If you're applying from F-1 OPT or another nonimmigrant status, confirm sponsorship intent during the offer stage before your current authorization runs short.
How do I apply for Structural Project Engineer jobs at Freese and Nichols?
Applications go through Freese and Nichols' careers portal, where structural openings are listed by office location and project discipline. You can also browse and filter visa-sponsoring Structural Project Engineer roles at the firm through Migrate Mate, which surfaces positions where sponsorship is already confirmed, saving you the step of vetting each listing individually.
Which visa types does Freese and Nichols commonly use for Structural Project Engineers?
Freese and Nichols sponsors H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and J-1 visas for engineering roles. For most full-time Structural Project Engineer hires, H-1B is the primary long-term path. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals with qualifying engineering degrees. OPT and CPT are common entry points for recent graduates before transitioning to H-1B sponsorship.
What qualifications does Freese and Nichols expect for Structural Project Engineer roles?
A bachelor's or master's degree in civil or structural engineering is the baseline requirement. Most openings ask for several years of experience with structural analysis software such as STAAD, RISA, or SAP2000, along with exposure to bridge, building, or water infrastructure projects. Progress toward PE licensure is frequently preferred and sometimes required for mid-level roles.
How do I navigate the visa timeline when joining Freese and Nichols as a Structural Project Engineer?
If you're entering on F-1 OPT, your employer must file an H-1B petition with USCIS by April 1 for an October 1 start. That means the Labor Condition Application process with DOL needs to begin in February or March at the latest. Discuss your status expiration date with your hiring manager and HR contact immediately after receiving an offer to avoid gaps in authorization.
