Align Your Degree to Texas PE Pathways
Freese and Nichols operates primarily in Texas and the Sun Belt, where licensed PE credentials carry weight. Confirm your foreign engineering degree is evaluated by a NACES-approved credential service before applying, so your qualifications translate clearly to hiring managers reviewing licensure eligibility.
Target Disciplines with Active Project Pipelines
Freese and Nichols consistently staffs water, transportation, and municipal infrastructure projects. Tailor your application to these practice areas rather than applying broadly. Project Engineer openings tied to active public contracts move faster through internal approval, including any sponsorship decision.
Search Verified Openings Through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Project Engineer roles at Freese and Nichols by visa type. This surfaces positions where sponsorship has been confirmed, saving you time you'd otherwise spend vetting listings that don't support international candidates.
Clarify OPT or CPT Timing Before Your Start Date
If you're on F-1 status, your OPT authorization must be active before your first day. Engineering roles at consulting firms often have fixed project start dates tied to client contracts, so confirm your Employment Authorization Document timeline with USCIS well before accepting an offer.
Understand How Freese and Nichols Files H-1B Petitions
H-1B sponsorship for Project Engineers typically requires your employer to file a Labor Condition Application with DOL certifying prevailing wage compliance. Ask the recruiter at offer stage whether the firm uses a preferred immigration counsel and what documentation they need from you to begin that process.
Use the 60-Day Grace Period Strategically Between Roles
If you're transitioning from a prior employer and targeting Freese and Nichols, your 60-day grace period starts the day your previous employment ends. H-1B portability allows you to begin work once Freese and Nichols files a new petition, but the timeline is tight for engineering roles with project-specific onboarding requirements.

Find Project Engineer at Freese and Nichols JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Freese and Nichols sponsor H-1B visas for Project Engineers?
Yes, Freese and Nichols has sponsored H-1B visas for engineering roles including Project Engineers. The firm operates in technical disciplines that qualify as specialty occupations under H-1B requirements. Sponsorship decisions are made at the business unit level, so it's worth raising the topic directly with the recruiter once you reach the offer stage rather than assuming it's handled automatically.
How do I apply for Project Engineer jobs at Freese and Nichols?
Applications go through Freese and Nichols' careers portal, where Project Engineer openings are listed by discipline and office location. You can also find and filter their visa-sponsoring roles through Migrate Mate, which lets you confirm sponsorship eligibility before applying. Engineering positions often require submitting a resume alongside a brief cover letter addressing your relevant project experience and licensure status.
Which visa types does Freese and Nichols support for Project Engineer roles?
Freese and Nichols has supported H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and J-1 visa holders in engineering functions. For Canadian and Mexican nationals, the TN visa is a practical option for Project Engineers since civil engineering is an explicitly listed TN profession. F-1 students completing STEM degrees can use OPT or CPT to start working while longer-term sponsorship is arranged.
What qualifications does Freese and Nichols expect for Project Engineer candidates?
Most Project Engineer postings at Freese and Nichols require a bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or a related engineering discipline. Practical experience with AutoCAD, civil design software, or discipline-specific tools is commonly listed. Progress toward an Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer license is viewed favorably, particularly for roles tied to Texas Department of Transportation or municipal water projects where PE oversight requirements apply.
How do I plan my timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship to work at Freese and Nichols?
H-1B cap-subject petitions are filed in April for an October 1 start date, so if you're not already in H-1B status, align your offer and onboarding timeline accordingly. If you're on OPT with a STEM extension, you may have up to three years to bridge to an H-1B without a gap. Confirm early with Freese and Nichols' HR team whether they file with premium processing, which reduces USCIS adjudication to around 15 business days.
