Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
H-1B eligibility for program management roles requires demonstrating a direct relationship between your degree and the position. For engineering-focused PM roles at a consulting firm, a degree in civil, environmental, or a related engineering discipline strengthens your case significantly over a generalist business background.
Target Freese and Nichols practice areas strategically
Freese and Nichols organizes work around water, transportation, and municipal infrastructure. Positioning yourself toward an active service line, rather than applying broadly, increases your chance of landing a role with defined project scope and a team already familiar with international hiring processes.
Clarify OPT STEM extension eligibility before applying
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm whether your degree qualifies for the 24-month STEM extension. Engineering degrees typically do, giving you up to three years of work authorization to bridge into an H-1B filing cycle with Freese and Nichols as your sponsoring employer.
Understand the LCA filing step before your offer letter
Before USCIS can adjudicate your H-1B petition, your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL certifying the offered wage meets prevailing levels. Ask Freese and Nichols at the offer stage whether their legal team initiates this process in-house or through outside counsel.

Which visa types are commonly used for Engineering Program Manager roles at Freese and Nichols?

F-1 OPT and CPT are used for early-career candidates still completing degrees or recent graduates. What qualifications are expected for Engineering Program Manager roles at Freese and Nichols?
Freese and Nichols typically expects a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline, often civil, environmental, or mechanical engineering depending on the practice area. Program management experience on infrastructure or municipal consulting projects is a strong differentiator. Professional licensure, such as a PE, is frequently listed as preferred or required for senior-level program management positions within their practice groups.
How do I time my H-1B filing if I receive an offer from Freese and Nichols?
H-1B cap-subject petitions can only be filed once per year, with USCIS opening registration in March for an October 1 start date. Confirm your current status expiration date relative to the filing timeline with Freese and Nichols's immigration counsel.
