How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Freshfields Visa Sponsorship USA
Target transactional and corporate practice groups
Freshfields' U.S. presence is heavily focused on M&A, capital markets, and cross-border transactions. Roles in these practice groups are most likely to attract H-1B sponsorship, especially for associates with international deal experience or elite law school credentials.
Align your application with the H-1B lottery timeline
Freshfields files H-1B petitions on the standard annual cycle. To be considered, you need an offer in hand well before April registration opens. Target on-campus recruiting or lateral hiring no later than the preceding fall or winter.
Highlight cross-border legal expertise in your application
Freshfields recruits for its U.S. offices with an eye on global capability. Emphasizing experience with international transactions, dual-qualified status, or foreign law knowledge differentiates you and reinforces why sponsorship makes business sense for the firm.
Use Migrate Mate to confirm active sponsorship before applying

Does Freshfields sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Freshfields sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying positions in its U.S. offices. Sponsorship is most commonly available for associate-level attorneys in practice areas like M&A, capital markets, and cross-border litigation. International candidates who join through the firm's standard recruiting pipeline, including summer associate programs, are typically eligible for H-1B sponsorship once their OPT period concludes.
What visa types does Freshfields sponsor?
Freshfields sponsors H-1B visas as its primary work visa for international attorneys. It also supports F-1 OPT and F-1 CPT, which are common entry points for international law students and recent graduates joining the firm before transitioning to H-1B status. Green Card sponsorship is less commonly documented for the firm's U.S. offices.
Which roles or departments at Freshfields are most likely to receive visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at Freshfields is concentrated in its core legal practice groups, particularly transactional areas like M&A, private equity, and capital markets. Associate attorney roles at the junior to mid-level are the most common beneficiaries. Business services and non-legal roles are less frequently sponsored, though eligibility depends on the specific position and hiring cycle.
How do I time my application to Freshfields for H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B registration opens each March for an October 1 start date. To secure sponsorship, you need a confirmed offer well before that window, ideally by late fall or winter of the prior year. For law graduates, the summer associate program is the most reliable path, as firms typically commit to full-time offers and sponsorship for converting associates during that cycle.
How do I find open roles at Freshfields that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to browse open positions at Freshfields with confirmed sponsorship history. Rather than sorting through job listings and guessing at sponsorship eligibility, Migrate Mate filters by verified sponsors so you can focus your effort on firms actively hiring international candidates. Check regularly, as legal hiring at elite firms moves on tight timelines.
