Align your degree to Garver's disciplines
Garver recruits Development Engineers across civil, environmental, and transportation practice areas. Make sure your transcript and resume explicitly reflect one of these concentrations, since USCIS requires a direct nexus between your degree field and the specialty occupation being petitioned.
Target Garver offices in active project corridors
Garver's Development Engineer openings cluster around states with heavy infrastructure investment. Prioritize locations where the firm holds active DOT or municipal contracts, because those offices have immediate staffing needs and stronger internal motivation to move quickly on sponsorship paperwork.
Clarify OPT or CPT authorization before your interview
If you're on F-1 status, confirm with your DSO that your authorized period covers Garver's expected start date. Consulting firms sometimes push onboarding by several weeks, and a misaligned OPT end date can complicate the offer stage before an H-1B petition is even prepared.
Use Migrate Mate to surface Garver's open roles
Development Engineer positions at Garver are spread across multiple regions and don't always stay posted long. Search Migrate Mate to filter Garver's current openings by visa sponsorship type so you're applying to the roles where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Ask about the LCA timing during the offer stage
Before your H-1B petition can be filed, your employer must obtain a certified Labor Condition Application from DOL. Ask Garver's HR team when they plan to initiate the LCA so you can track whether the timeline aligns with your current status expiration or the April 1 H-1B filing window.
Prepare a PE licensure or EIT credential summary
Garver values professional engineering credentials, and having your Engineer-in-Training certification or a clear path to PE licensure documented strengthens both your candidacy and the specialty occupation argument USCIS evaluates when reviewing your H-1B or EB petition.

Find Development Engineer at Garver JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Garver sponsor H-1B visas for Development Engineers?
Yes, Garver sponsors H-1B visas for Development Engineers. The firm operates across infrastructure and environmental consulting disciplines where specialty occupation criteria are well established, making H-1B petitions a standard part of their hiring process for qualified international candidates. If you're in the H-1B lottery pool, Garver is a viable sponsoring employer to target before the April registration window opens.
Which visa types does Garver commonly use for Development Engineer roles?
Garver sponsors across several visa categories for Development Engineers, including H-1B, F-1 OPT and CPT, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals, J-1 for training-track candidates, and employment-based Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3. The right category depends on your nationality, degree level, and where you are in your career. TN is often the fastest option for Canadian or Mexican engineers in qualifying civil or environmental roles.
How do I apply for Development Engineer jobs at Garver?
You can browse and apply for Development Engineer positions at Garver directly through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm sponsorship availability before applying. Garver typically looks for candidates with relevant engineering degrees, project experience in their core practice areas, and either active work authorization or clear eligibility for a visa the firm already sponsors. Tailor your resume to the specific discipline each posting lists.
What qualifications does Garver expect for Development Engineer candidates?
Garver generally expects a bachelor's degree or higher in civil, environmental, structural, or a related engineering field for Development Engineer roles. Active pursuit of PE licensure or an existing EIT certification is a strong differentiator. Project experience in transportation, water, or municipal infrastructure aligns well with Garver's core contracts. For H-1B sponsorship, your degree field must directly correspond to the role's technical requirements under USCIS specialty occupation standards.
How do I time my application around the H-1B filing window if Garver offers me a role?
H-1B registration opens each March for an October 1 start date. If Garver extends you an offer in late winter or spring, your petition can be filed for that cap year if you're selected in the lottery. Garver must obtain a certified Labor Condition Application from DOL before filing. If you're already on OPT, you may be eligible for a 60-day cap-gap extension that bridges your status until October 1 if your OPT expires during the gap period.
