Align Your Credentials to GEI's Disciplines
GEI Consultants focuses on geotechnical, environmental, and civil engineering work. Before applying, confirm your degree field maps directly to the role, not just engineering broadly. A mismatch between your specialty and the position weakens the specialty occupation case at USCIS.
Target Roles That Match Your OPT Timeline
F-1 OPT gives you 12 months of work authorization, with a 60-day grace period after it ends. Apply to GEI early enough that an offer and onboarding can happen before your clock runs short, since consulting firms often have longer hiring cycles.
Ask About PERM Sponsorship During Offer Negotiations
GEI sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards, which require PERM labor certification through DOL before USCIS filing. Raise this explicitly when you have an offer. Consulting firms with established immigration programs typically have a process, but you need to know the expected timeline upfront.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Engineering Roles by Visa Type
Not every open engineering position at GEI will be flagged as sponsorship-eligible in a standard job search. Use Migrate Mate to filter GEI's current openings specifically by the visa types you need, so you're only spending time on roles where sponsorship is realistic.
Prepare a Project Portfolio Tied to Field Work
GEI's engineering roles are field and project-heavy, not purely desk-based. Interviewers will probe for hands-on site experience. Organize examples from your work history around specific project outcomes, soil investigations, remediation work, or infrastructure assessments rather than general technical skills.
Confirm TN Eligibility Before Accepting a Canadian or Mexican Referral
TN status is available to Canadian and Mexican engineers in qualifying disciplines. If you're on this path, verify your engineering field appears on the TN occupation list before GEI initiates paperwork, since not every engineering subspecialty qualifies under USMCA definitions.

Does GEI Consultants sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, GEI Consultants sponsors H-1B visas for engineering roles. Because the H-1B is subject to an annual cap and lottery, timing matters. If you're already on an active H-1B with another employer, GEI can file an H-1B transfer without waiting for the lottery, which significantly simplifies the process for experienced candidates.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at GEI Consultants?
You can browse and apply for engineering roles at GEI Consultants directly through their careers page or through Migrate Mate, which filters GEI's open positions by visa sponsorship eligibility. When applying, tailor your resume to the specific engineering discipline listed, whether geotechnical, environmental, or civil, since GEI's hiring teams are typically specialized by practice area.
Which visa types does GEI Consultants commonly use for Engineering roles?
GEI Consultants sponsors H-1B, TN, J-1, and F-1 OPT and CPT for engineering positions, and also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship for longer-term hires. The right visa depends on your nationality, degree level, and career stage. Canadian and Mexican engineers may qualify for TN status, which avoids the H-1B lottery entirely.
What qualifications does GEI Consultants expect for sponsored Engineering roles?
GEI typically expects a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly relevant engineering field, such as civil, environmental, or geotechnical engineering. Many sponsored roles also require or prefer professional licensure, like an EIT or PE credential. For H-1B sponsorship specifically, USCIS requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, so your degree must align with the actual job duties.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take when joining GEI Consultants?
Timeline depends on the visa type. H-1B transfers for existing H-1B holders can be filed with a same-day start using premium processing through USCIS, typically resolving within 15 business days. New H-1B cap filings require waiting for the April lottery and an October 1 start date. TN status for Canadians can often be obtained at the border on the same day GEI provides the offer letter.
