Tailor your credentials to GEI's project scope
GEI's Structural Engineer roles often sit at the intersection of geotechnical and structural work. Highlight experience with foundation design, retaining structures, or site remediation projects to align with the consulting workflows their teams actually run.
Confirm your degree field matches the role
H-1B specialty occupation requires a degree in a directly related field. A civil or structural engineering degree maps cleanly, but an interdisciplinary background needs documentation showing coursework or credentials that specifically support structural engineering practice.
Start OPT applications well before your program ends
USCIS recommends filing OPT up to 90 days before your graduation date. If you're targeting a GEI offer as an F-1 student, align your application timeline so your EAD arrives before your start date.
Use Migrate Mate to filter GEI's open roles
GEI posts Structural Engineer openings across multiple offices and service lines. Use Migrate Mate to browse their active listings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility so you're targeting roles where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Ask hiring managers about PERM timelines early
Consulting firms like GEI typically begin PERM-based Green Card processes after you've established performance history. During offer negotiations, ask directly whether the firm has a standard timeline for initiating DOL PERM filings for engineering staff.
Prepare a PE licensure plan before your interview
Many of GEI's senior Structural Engineer roles reference PE licensure as a requirement or strong preference. Even if you're pre-licensure, showing a concrete plan to sit for the PE exam signals long-term commitment and removes a common sponsorship hesitation.

Does GEI Consultants sponsor H-1B visas for Structural Engineers?
Yes, GEI Consultants sponsors H-1B visas for Structural Engineers. Structural engineering qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS guidelines because the role requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering. GEI operates across multiple U.S. offices and has an active history of supporting work authorization for engineering professionals in its consulting practice.
Which visa types does GEI Consultants commonly use for Structural Engineer roles?
GEI sponsors several visa categories for Structural Engineers, including H-1B for degree-holding professionals, F-1 OPT and CPT for students completing engineering programs, TN visas for qualified Canadian and Mexican nationals, and J-1 for exchange program participants. For longer-term employment, GEI also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways through the DOL PERM labor certification process.
How do I apply for Structural Engineer jobs at GEI Consultants?
You can browse and apply for Structural Engineer openings at GEI Consultants through Migrate Mate, which lists GEI's roles filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility. GEI posts positions across multiple service lines and regional offices, so searching by location and engineering discipline helps you identify the most relevant openings. Tailor your application to reflect GEI's project-based consulting environment.
What qualifications does GEI Consultants expect for Structural Engineer roles?
GEI typically looks for a bachelor's or master's degree in civil or structural engineering from an accredited program. Relevant project experience in foundation systems, structural analysis, or infrastructure consulting strengthens your profile. Professional Engineer licensure or active pursuit of the PE exam is valued, particularly for mid-level and senior positions where client-facing responsibility is involved.
How do I plan my visa timeline when pursuing a Structural Engineer role at GEI Consultants?
Timeline depends on your current status. F-1 OPT candidates should file with USCIS up to 90 days before graduation to ensure EAD availability at the start date. H-1B cap-subject petitions have an October 1 start date, meaning offers typically need to be in place before the April lottery registration window. TN status can be obtained at the border with an offer letter, making it faster for eligible candidates.
