Align your credentials with PE licensure expectations
Walker Consultants values engineers on a path to Professional Engineer licensure. Before applying, confirm your foreign degree is evaluated by a NACES-recognized credential evaluation service so it maps clearly to a U.S. bachelor's or master's in civil or structural engineering.
Target roles matching your structural specialty
Walker's structural work spans parking structures, building facades, and forensic investigations. Applying to openings that match your specific technical background, whether cast-in-place concrete, post-tensioned systems, or structural assessment, strengthens your case for sponsorship because it signals a hard-to-replace skillset.
Understand how TN status fits consulting roles
If you're a Canadian or Mexican citizen with a civil engineering degree, TN classification can get you started at Walker without waiting for H-1B cap season. TN status is employer-specific, so confirm the offer letter explicitly covers your structural engineer title before traveling to the port of entry.
Time your H-1B conversations around USCIS cap season
H-1B registration opens in March and cap-subject petitions take effect October 1. If you're on F-1 OPT, flag your OPT end date early in interviews so Walker's legal team can assess whether a cap-gap or premium processing strategy is needed to bridge the gap.
Use Migrate Mate to surface Walker Consultants openings filtered by sponsorship
Walker posts Structural Engineer roles across multiple locations and seniority levels. Use Migrate Mate to filter open positions by visa type so you're only reviewing roles where Walker has an active sponsorship history for international candidates, saving time on applications unlikely to lead to an offer.
Prepare for PERM early if targeting a Green Card path
Consulting firms supporting EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship must run PERM labor certification through DOL before filing the immigrant petition. Ask directly during the offer stage whether Walker will initiate PERM and request a rough timeline, since the process typically takes one to two years before I-140 filing.

Does Walker Consultants sponsor H-1B visas for Structural Engineers?
Yes, Walker Consultants sponsors H-1B visas for Structural Engineer roles. The firm has an established pattern of filing H-1B petitions for engineering positions, which aligns with the specialized, degree-required nature of structural engineering work. If you're on F-1 OPT, flag your authorization timeline early so Walker's immigration counsel can plan accordingly for cap season or premium processing.
How do I apply for Structural Engineer jobs at Walker Consultants?
Applications go through Walker Consultants' careers portal, where positions are listed by office location and practice area. Tailoring your resume to highlight project types Walker works on, such as parking structures, building envelopes, or forensic structural assessments, improves your chances of moving past initial screening. You can also browse and filter Walker's open Structural Engineer roles on Migrate Mate to identify positions with active sponsorship potential.
Which visa types does Walker Consultants commonly use for Structural Engineer roles?
Walker Consultants has sponsored H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, and EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant visas for engineering talent. H-1B is the most common path for long-term sponsorship. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican citizens with a qualifying civil engineering degree and is faster to obtain. F-1 OPT bridges recent graduates while longer-term sponsorship is arranged. EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship is available for established hires.
What qualifications does Walker Consultants expect for Structural Engineer positions?
Walker typically requires a bachelor's or master's degree in civil or structural engineering from an accredited institution. For international candidates, a credential evaluation confirming U.S. equivalency is standard. Proficiency with structural analysis software, experience with relevant building codes such as ASCE 7 or ACI 318, and progress toward a Professional Engineer license are commonly expected, especially at mid-level and senior positions.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Structural Engineer role at Walker Consultants?
Timeline depends on the visa type. TN status for Canadians can be obtained at a port of entry on the same day as the offer. H-1B petitions under standard processing take three to five months after USCIS acceptance, with a cap start date of October 1. Premium processing reduces the adjudication window to roughly two to three weeks. EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through PERM typically spans two to four years in total from labor certification through approval.
