Align your credentials to Walker's disciplines
Walker Consultants focuses on parking, transportation, and structural planning. Before applying, map your degree and project experience directly to one of those practice areas. A generic resume won't clear the specialty occupation threshold USCIS requires for H-1B approval.
Target open roles with active headcount
Walker posts Project Consultant openings frequently across multiple office locations. Apply to postings that have been live for under three weeks. Roles that linger often indicate the hiring manager is actively filling, which increases the likelihood sponsorship conversations happen early.
Raise sponsorship before the offer stage
Consulting firms often move quickly from final interview to offer. Bring up your visa status during the second interview round, not after you receive a written offer. This gives Walker's HR team time to loop in outside immigration counsel without delaying your start date.
Understand OPT cap-gap protections if you're on F-1
If Walker files your H-1B petition in April while you're on F-1 OPT, a timely filed application triggers cap-gap protection, extending your work authorization through September 30. Confirm with USCIS that your EAD end date falls within that window before your OPT expires.
Use Migrate Mate to identify Walker Consultants openings
Filter by Walker Consultants and Project Consultant on Migrate Mate to surface roles where sponsorship is confirmed. This saves time compared to manually cross-referencing job boards with DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data to verify a firm's sponsorship activity.
Prepare for PERM documentation early if targeting permanent residency
Walker sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 pathways for some Project Consultants. PERM requires the employer to document the recruitment process before filing with DOL. Ask during negotiations whether the role is designated for permanent sponsorship, so you're not waiting years to surface that conversation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Walker Consultants sponsor H-1B visas for Project Consultants?
Yes, Walker Consultants has a history of sponsoring H-1B visas for Project Consultant roles. The H-1B requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, typically requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field such as civil engineering, transportation planning, or a related discipline. Walker's project-based consulting work generally meets that threshold, but you'll want to confirm sponsorship intent with the recruiter early in the process.
How do I apply for Project Consultant jobs at Walker Consultants?
You can browse open Project Consultant positions at Walker Consultants through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles where visa sponsorship has been confirmed. Walker also posts directly on its careers page. When applying, tailor your resume to the specific practice area, such as parking consulting or structural planning, and address your visa status in your cover letter or early in your first recruiter call to avoid delays later.
Which visa types does Walker Consultants use for Project Consultant roles?
Walker Consultants sponsors across several visa categories for Project Consultants. H-1B is the most common route for full-time hires. F-1 OPT holders, including those in STEM fields with extended OPT eligibility, are also supported. TN visas are available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional categories. For longer-term employees, Walker has pursued EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process.
What qualifications does Walker Consultants expect for Project Consultant roles?
Walker Consultants typically looks for candidates with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, urban planning, architecture, or a closely related technical field. Practical project experience, including internships or co-ops in consulting or infrastructure environments, strengthens your application. For H-1B eligibility, your degree must align specifically with the role's duties. Candidates with a professional engineering license or working toward licensure are particularly competitive for mid-level Project Consultant positions.
How do I handle timing if Walker Consultants wants to sponsor my H-1B?
H-1B petitions are filed in April for an October 1 start date, so your offer needs to be in place before the registration window opens in March. If you're starting on OPT, Walker can employ you immediately and file the H-1B in the following cap season. Premium processing, which USCIS currently adjudicates within 15 business days, is available if Walker needs a faster decision confirmation after selection.
