Build a portfolio that shows systems thinking
Google's UX hiring values end-to-end design work across complex, multi-surface products. Document your process, constraints, and cross-functional decisions, not just final screens. Reviewers at this scale are evaluating judgment, not aesthetics.
Target roles by product area, not just title
Google hires UX Designers, UX Researchers, and Interaction Designers across distinct product orgs like Google Cloud, Android, and Workspace. Each org has different hiring velocity, so filtering by product area helps you identify where active headcount sits.
Prepare your degree equivalency documentation early
H-1B specialty occupation requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in a directly related field. If your design degree is from outside the U.S. or is a three-year program, have a credential evaluation ready before Google's immigration team begins the USCIS petition.

Find User Experience Design at Google JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Google sponsor H-1B visas for User Experience Designers?
Yes, Google sponsors H-1B visas for User Experience Design roles. Because H-1B visas are subject to an annual lottery, Google typically submits registrations in March for a October start date. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, a transfer to Google is possible outside the lottery window.
How do I apply for User Experience Design jobs at Google?
Applications go through Google's careers portal, but UX roles move quickly and many require a portfolio submission alongside your resume. Tailoring your portfolio to the specific product area you're applying to, such as Google Cloud or Android, improves your chances of clearing the initial review. You can also browse open Google UX roles filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate.
Which visa types does Google sponsor for User Experience Design roles?
Google sponsors the H-1B, H-1B1, and E-3 visa categories for UX professionals. The H-1B is available to most nationalities but requires lottery selection. The H-1B1 is available to Chilean and Singaporean nationals without a lottery. The E-3 is exclusive to Australian citizens and also bypasses the lottery, making it a faster path for eligible applicants.
What qualifications does Google expect for User Experience Design roles?
Most Google UX roles require a bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction, cognitive science, or a related field, plus a portfolio demonstrating complex, multi-platform product work. Senior roles typically expect experience leading design across cross-functional teams. For visa purposes, your degree must align closely with the role's core responsibilities to satisfy USCIS specialty occupation requirements.
How do I understand the visa filing timeline once I have an offer from Google?
After accepting an offer, Google's in-house immigration team manages the petition process. For H-1B cap cases, petitions are filed in April and work authorization begins October 1. E-3 and H-1B1 petitions can be filed year-round with shorter timelines, often allowing start dates within two to three months of offer acceptance, subject to consular appointment availability.
