Align your degree to PERM requirements
PERM labor certification requires your degree to directly match the advertised role. For ALTEN's engineering and IT consulting positions, a degree in a tangentially related field can trigger a denial. Cross-check your credentials against the job description before applying to confirm the field-of-study alignment USCIS expects.
Identify your EB pathway before applying
ALTEN typically sponsors EB-2 for roles requiring advanced degrees and EB-3 for bachelor's-level engineering or technical positions. If you hold an advanced degree or can demonstrate exceptional ability, clarifying your pathway early shapes which roles you target and how your offer letter should be structured.
Research ALTEN's prevailing wage obligations
Before negotiating salary, run your target role through the OFLC Wage Search to see the DOL wage level ALTEN must meet for PERM certification. Consulting roles at ALTEN often fall at wage Level II or III, and an offer below that threshold will fail the labor certification regardless of intent.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified ALTEN sponsorship history
Before applying, confirm ALTEN's Green Card filing history for your specific occupation code. Migrate Mate surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data by employer and role, so you can see which job families at ALTEN have active sponsorship patterns rather than relying on recruiter assurances.
Time your application around ALTEN's project cycles
ALTEN's consulting model ties headcount to client contracts, meaning Green Card sponsorship conversations happen most naturally during contract renewals or new project onboarding. Targeting those windows, typically early Q1 and Q3, gives you more leverage to raise Green Card sponsorship as part of your employment terms.
Prepare for the PERM recruitment documentation phase
PERM requires ALTEN to run a mandatory recruitment process proving no qualified U.S. workers are available. You can strengthen your candidacy by ensuring your resume precisely reflects the minimum requirements in the job posting, because PERM audits scrutinize whether candidates rejected during recruitment were genuinely unqualified.
ALTEN Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does ALTEN sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, ALTEN sponsors Green Card visas for qualifying employees in engineering, IT consulting, and technical specialist roles across its U.S. operations. Sponsorship is typically initiated after a period of employment and is tied to business need and role eligibility. Candidates should raise the topic during offer negotiations rather than waiting until after they join.
Which roles at ALTEN are most likely to receive Green Card sponsorship?
Green Card sponsorship at ALTEN concentrates in engineering disciplines, software development, systems integration, and technical consulting roles that require specialized degrees. Positions embedded in long-term client engagements tend to have stronger sponsorship candidacy because the company has greater incentive to retain those employees beyond their initial visa status.
How do I start the Green Card process at ALTEN?
Raise Green Card sponsorship directly with your hiring manager or HR contact during the offer stage, not after you start. ALTEN's process follows the standard PERM labor certification path through DOL, followed by an I-140 petition filed with USCIS. Confirming your EB category, either EB-2 or EB-3, early determines how the job description must be written for PERM.
How long does the Green Card process take at ALTEN?
The PERM labor certification stage alone typically runs six to eighteen months depending on DOL processing backlogs and whether ALTEN's filing is audited. After PERM approval, USCIS adjudicates the I-140 petition, and then priority date availability determines how long you wait before filing the final adjustment of status. Migrate Mate can help you track where ALTEN's filings stand in the queue.
How do I know if my role at ALTEN qualifies for EB-2 versus EB-3?
EB-2 requires your position to formally require an advanced degree or demonstrate exceptional ability, while EB-3 covers roles requiring a standard bachelor's degree. At ALTEN, senior engineering or specialized consulting roles often meet EB-2 criteria, while mid-level technical positions typically fall under EB-3. Confirming this classification with ALTEN's immigration counsel before PERM filing prevents reclassification delays later.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at ALTEN?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
