Match your credentials to PERM requirements early
MedStar's HR team initiates PERM labor certification through DOL before filing your Green Card petition. Gather your degree transcripts, license verification, and any equivalency evaluations now so the employer can document your minimum qualifications without delays during recruitment advertising.
Clarify your EB category before accepting an offer
Physicians with a national interest waiver may qualify for EB-2 NIW without PERM, while most registered nurses slot into EB-3. Ask your recruiter which pathway MedStar's immigration counsel is filing under, it directly affects your timeline and whether a labor certification is required.
Target departments with recurring sponsorship history
MedStar's hospital network in the Washington, D.C., and Maryland region consistently hires for hard-to-fill clinical roles like hospitalists, intensivists, and specialist nurses. Prioritizing these high-demand departments increases your odds of landing a role where Green Card sponsorship is already standard practice.
Benchmark your salary against prevailing wage tiers
PERM requires MedStar to pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation and location. Run your job title and metro area through the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating your offer so you can verify the role is classified at the correct wage level.
Use Migrate Mate to confirm MedStar's filing history
Search MedStar Health on Migrate Mate to review its Green Card and H-1B visa filing activity by job title and location. Cross-referencing this data before your interview lets you walk in knowing which roles the company has sponsored and how to frame your Green Card conversation confidently.
Secure a written sponsorship commitment in your offer letter
MedStar's immigration process typically runs through a third-party law firm. Before signing, confirm the offer letter specifies Green Card sponsorship and clarifies who covers USCIS filing fees. Ambiguous language about "potential" sponsorship has delayed cases for healthcare workers at large hospital systems.
MedStar Health Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does MedStar Health sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, MedStar Health sponsors Green Card visas for qualifying employees, primarily through the EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based preference categories. Sponsorship is most common in clinical roles such as physicians, registered nurses, and allied health professionals where MedStar has documented difficulty filling positions through domestic recruitment.
Which roles and departments at MedStar Health typically receive Green Card sponsorship?
Green Card sponsorship at MedStar Health is concentrated in clinical and patient-facing departments, particularly internal medicine, critical care, nursing, and specialized therapy roles. Administrative and non-clinical positions are sponsored less frequently. Roles classified as hard to fill under DOL's PERM recruitment standards are the strongest candidates for sponsorship consideration.
How do I start the Green Card process at MedStar Health?
The process begins after you receive a job offer. MedStar typically engages an immigration law firm to file a PERM labor certification with DOL on your behalf, documenting that no qualified U.S. workers were available for the role. Once PERM is approved, the employer files an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. You can search MedStar's sponsorship history on Migrate Mate before your interview to understand which roles have historically been sponsored.
How long does Green Card sponsorship take at MedStar Health?
The timeline depends on your nationality, EB category, and USCIS processing speeds. PERM labor certification alone currently takes several months under standard processing. EB-3 applicants from high-demand countries may face additional wait times due to visa backlogs. Confirming your priority date category with MedStar's immigration counsel early helps you plan realistically.
How do I negotiate Green Card sponsorship when accepting a job offer from MedStar Health?
Raise sponsorship during the offer stage, not after signing. Ask specifically whether the offer includes employer-paid PERM and I-140 filing, and request that sponsorship terms be written into your offer letter. MedStar's larger hospital locations generally have established immigration workflows, so the conversation is routine for recruiters hiring for clinical specialties.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at MedStar Health?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
