Job Roles at Northeastern University
How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Northeastern University Green Card Visa Sponsorship Jobs USA
Target research and faculty roles first
Northeastern's Green Card sponsorship is strongest in academic and research positions. Faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and senior research scientists are the roles most consistently supported through the full Green Card process, including EB-1 and EB-2 pathways.
Understand the EB-2 NIW advantage for researchers
Researchers at Northeastern working on projects of national interest may qualify for an EB-2 National Interest Waiver, which bypasses the PERM labor certification step. This is a significant advantage for those with strong publication records or specialized expertise.
Ask HR about sponsorship policy during the offer stage
Northeastern's willingness to sponsor varies by department and budget. Raise Green Card sponsorship directly during offer negotiations, not after you've started. HR and department heads have more flexibility before the offer is finalized.
Use Migrate Mate to verify sponsorship history
Not every open role at Northeastern leads to Green Card sponsorship. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, helping you focus on positions and departments with an established track record.
Build your case around the university's research mission
Northeastern emphasizes experiential learning and applied research. Framing your contributions in terms of advancing that mission strengthens both your job application and any future Green Card petition, particularly under EB-2 or EB-1 extraordinary ability categories.
Start the PERM process early if your role requires it
Standard Green Card filings through PERM labor certification involve lengthy DOL processing times. If your role at Northeastern requires PERM, align expectations with HR early so the process begins well before your nonimmigrant status needs renewal.

Does Northeastern University sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, Northeastern University sponsors Green Card visas for eligible employees. Sponsorship is most common for tenure-track faculty, researchers, and select specialized professional staff. Support for administrative roles varies by department. International employees should discuss Green Card sponsorship directly with HR when evaluating or negotiating a position at Northeastern.
Which roles and departments at Northeastern University typically receive Green Card sponsorship?
Green Card sponsorship at Northeastern is most consistently available in academic departments, research institutes, and centers focused on applied science, engineering, health sciences, and technology. Faculty positions and senior research roles are the strongest candidates. Administrative and operational roles may receive sponsorship on a case-by-case basis depending on departmental need and budget.
How does the Green Card application process work at Northeastern University?
Northeastern typically works with outside immigration counsel to manage Green Card filings on behalf of sponsored employees. The process usually begins with PERM labor certification through the Department of Labor, followed by an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. Researchers may pursue EB-1 or EB-2 NIW pathways that skip the PERM step, shortening the overall timeline significantly.
How long does the Green Card process take at Northeastern University?
Timeline depends on the Green Card category and your country of birth. PERM-based filings under EB-2 or EB-3 can take one to three years for the petition alone, with additional waits if your priority date is backlogged. EB-1A and EB-2 NIW petitions move faster but require strong evidentiary records. Indian and Chinese nationals face the longest waits due to per-country visa backlogs.
How do I find Green Card sponsorship jobs at Northeastern University?
Northeastern posts openings through its careers portal, but not every listing explicitly states whether Green Card sponsorship is available. Migrate Mate helps by surfacing verified sponsorship history so you can identify roles at Northeastern with a real track record of supporting international employees through the Green Card process, saving you time on outreach to positions unlikely to sponsor.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at Northeastern University?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
