Target faculty and research roles first
Nova Southeastern University's Green Card sponsorships are concentrated in academic and research positions. Applying for faculty, postdoctoral, or research-focused roles gives you the strongest foundation for a Green Card conversation during the hiring process.
Understand the EB-2 NIW pathway if you qualify
Education professionals with advanced degrees may qualify for EB-2 National Interest Waiver, which doesn't require employer initiation. If your work contributes to U.S. educational or research goals, this pathway can run alongside or independently of NSU's internal sponsorship process.
Raise Green Card early in the offer negotiation
Universities typically budget immigration costs into faculty and staff hiring packages. Asking about Green Card sponsorship during offer negotiation, rather than after onboarding, is standard practice in higher education and rarely viewed as presumptuous.
Confirm sponsorship before accepting any offer
Not every role at Nova Southeastern University receives Green Card sponsorship. Confirm in writing that your specific position qualifies before accepting. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history before you even apply.
Build a relationship with the international faculty office
NSU's office handling international faculty and staff immigration is your internal advocate. Engaging them early, understanding their preferred immigration counsel, and knowing their timeline expectations can significantly smooth your Green Card petition process.
Align your tenure or contract timeline with PERM filing windows
PERM labor certification requires active employment and can take over a year before an I-140 is filed. Coordinating your contract renewal or tenure track timeline with NSU's immigration team ensures the sponsorship process isn't disrupted by employment gaps.
Nova Southeastern University Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Nova Southeastern University sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, Nova Southeastern University sponsors Green Card visas for qualifying employees. Sponsorship is most common for faculty, researchers, and specialized professional staff in areas aligned with the university's academic and healthcare programs. Not every position qualifies, so confirming sponsorship eligibility for your specific role during the hiring process is essential.
Which roles and departments at Nova Southeastern University are most likely to receive Green Card sponsorship?
Green Card sponsorship at NSU is most frequently associated with tenure-track and research faculty positions, particularly in health sciences, engineering, computing, and the natural sciences. Administrative and professional staff roles occasionally receive sponsorship, but academic and research appointments represent the clearest pathway to employer-supported permanent residence at the university.
How do I navigate the Green Card application process at Nova Southeastern University?
NSU typically initiates Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, followed by an I-140 immigrant petition. The university's international services or human resources team coordinates with outside immigration counsel. Your role is to provide employment history, educational credentials, and any documentation supporting your qualifications throughout each stage of the filing.
How long does the Green Card process take at Nova Southeastern University?
The timeline depends on your visa category, country of birth, and how quickly NSU initiates the process. PERM labor certification alone can take six months to over a year. For nationals from high-demand countries, priority date backlogs in the EB-2 and EB-3 categories can add years beyond the initial filing. Starting early in your employment is strongly advisable.
How do I find and apply for Green Card-sponsored jobs at Nova Southeastern University?
Start by identifying roles that historically receive immigration support, then confirm sponsorship eligibility directly with NSU's hiring team during the interview process. Migrate Mate makes this easier by listing verified Green Card sponsors, letting you search specifically for NSU openings where sponsorship has been documented. This saves time you'd otherwise spend applying to roles that don't support permanent residence.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at Nova Southeastern University?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
