Target roles requiring specialized engineering credentials
Skanska's Green Card filings tend to cluster around roles where specialized technical credentials are genuinely hard to source domestically. Civil, structural, and MEP engineers with licensed or internationally recognized qualifications are stronger candidates than generalist project coordinators or administrative staff.
Understand which EB category fits your background
Most Skanska Green Card cases go through EB-2 or EB-3, depending on your degree level and role. EB-2 requires an advanced degree or exceptional ability; EB-3 covers professionals with a bachelor's degree. PERM labor certification is typically required for both pathways before USCIS can adjudicate your petition.
Document your specialty occupation before interviews
Before applying, confirm your target role maps to a recognized construction or engineering occupation. Use O*NET to verify your job's classification and typical education requirements. This documentation becomes critical during PERM, where DOL scrutinizes whether the position genuinely requires your degree field.
Ask about sponsorship timelines during the offer stage
Construction project cycles affect when Skanska can initiate a PERM filing. Ask your recruiter whether the role is tied to a long-term contract or ongoing division, since project-based positions may create uncertainty about the multi-year commitment Green Card sponsorship requires from both parties.
Use Migrate Mate to verify Skanska's filing history
Before accepting an offer, verify Skanska's actual Green Card filing activity by role and location. Migrate Mate surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application and PERM data so you can see which departments and job titles have historically received sponsorship, helping you target the right team.
Align your salary expectations with prevailing wage levels
PERM requires Skanska to pay the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level for your role before negotiating. Being offered below prevailing wage can delay or derail the PERM filing entirely.
Skanska Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Skanska sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, Skanska sponsors Green Card visas for qualifying employees, primarily through the EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based preference categories. Sponsorship is most common for engineering and technical roles where Skanska cannot readily find qualified U.S. workers. The process begins with PERM labor certification filed with DOL before USCIS can approve the immigrant petition.
Which roles at Skanska are most likely to receive Green Card sponsorship?
Skanska's Green Card sponsorship tends to concentrate in civil, structural, and MEP engineering roles, along with specialized project management positions tied to large infrastructure or building projects. Roles that require specific licensure or technical credentials in short domestic supply are stronger candidates than general administrative or entry-level construction positions.
How do I start the Green Card process at Skanska?
The process typically begins after you've established yourself in a permanent role at Skanska. Your employer initiates PERM labor certification with DOL, demonstrating no qualified U.S. workers are available for the position. Once PERM is approved, Skanska files an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. You can use Migrate Mate to track employer filing activity and understand typical timelines before committing to the process.
How long does the Green Card process take at Skanska?
The full timeline depends on your EB category and country of birth. PERM labor certification alone can take six to twelve months. After PERM approval, USCIS adjudicates the I-140 petition. For most countries, a visa number is immediately available in EB-2 and EB-3, but applicants born in India or China face multi-year backlogs due to per-country annual limits.
How do I negotiate Green Card sponsorship into a job offer at Skanska?
Raise sponsorship during the offer stage, not after signing. Ask specifically whether the role qualifies for PERM-based sponsorship and confirm the position is tied to a long-term division rather than a single project contract. Skanska's commitment to a multi-year PERM and I-140 process requires role stability, so verifying that upfront protects both parties from a costly interruption later.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at Skanska?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
