Job Roles at The University of Texas at Austin
How to Get Visa Sponsorship in The University of Texas at Austin Green Card Visa Sponsorship Jobs USA
Target research and faculty roles first
UT Austin's Green Card sponsorship is concentrated in academic and research positions. Faculty appointments, postdoctoral researchers, and specialized staff roles in STEM and humanities departments are the most common pathways into a sponsored position at the university.
Understand the EB-2 NIW advantage for academics
If your research has national significance, you may qualify for an EB-2 National Interest Waiver, which doesn't require employer-initiated PERM labor certification. UT Austin researchers with strong publication records and field impact are well-positioned to pursue this independently.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified UT Austin openings
Not every job listing signals genuine sponsorship willingness. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, helping you focus your UT Austin job search on roles where Green Card support is actually available.
Build tenure-track relationships before applying
UT Austin's Green Card sponsorships in education often follow long-term employment relationships. Postdoctoral appointments, visiting researcher roles, and contract positions frequently serve as the starting point before a department initiates permanent residence sponsorship.
Clarify which Green Card category your role falls under
UT Austin may sponsor through EB-1B for outstanding professors, EB-2 for advanced degree positions, or EB-3 for skilled roles. Knowing which category applies to your offer helps you set accurate timeline expectations and prepare the right supporting documentation.

Does The University of Texas at Austin sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, The University of Texas at Austin sponsors Green Card visas for qualifying employees, primarily through the EB-1B, EB-2, and EB-3 immigrant visa categories. Sponsorship is most common for faculty, researchers, and specialized staff in roles requiring advanced degrees or exceptional expertise. Sponsorship decisions are made at the departmental level and are not guaranteed for every position.
Which roles and departments at UT Austin are most likely to receive Green Card sponsorship?
Green Card sponsorship at UT Austin is most common in tenure-track and tenured faculty positions, research scientist roles, and senior technical staff in STEM, social sciences, and humanities departments. The Cockrell School of Engineering, College of Natural Sciences, and research centers affiliated with the university tend to have the highest concentration of sponsored positions.
How does the Green Card application process work at The University of Texas at Austin?
UT Austin typically initiates the PERM labor certification process through the Department of Labor, followed by an I-140 immigrant petition filed with USCIS. For EB-1B outstanding professor or researcher cases, PERM is not required. The university's international office or legal counsel coordinates the process, but employees should stay actively involved in document preparation and timelines.
How long does the Green Card process take at The University of Texas at Austin?
The timeline depends heavily on your visa category and country of birth. PERM labor certification alone can take a year or more, and I-140 adjudication adds additional months. For applicants from India or China, visa backlogs in the EB-2 and EB-3 categories can extend the overall wait significantly beyond the initial filing period.
How do I find Green Card jobs at The University of Texas at Austin?
Search UT Austin's official careers portal for positions in research, faculty, and technical roles, and look for language indicating visa sponsorship eligibility. Migrate Mate can help you identify UT Austin roles tied to verified Green Card sponsorship history, so you can apply with confidence rather than guessing at a department's willingness to sponsor.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at The University of Texas at Austin?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
