Target technical and engineering roles first
Thornton Tomasetti's Green Card sponsorship is concentrated in technical disciplines. Structural, geotechnical, and environmental engineering positions have the strongest sponsorship track record. Focus your applications on roles where specialized credentials and licensure requirements are clearly stated.
Understand the PERM labor certification timeline
Green Card sponsorship at a professional services firm like Thornton Tomasetti starts with PERM, which can take a year or more before an I-140 is filed. Ask your recruiter early about where the firm is in the process for your intended role.
Transition from H-1B or E-3 before pushing for Green Card
Thornton Tomasetti regularly sponsors H-1B and E-3 visas. Establishing yourself on a nonimmigrant work visa first builds internal trust and demonstrates performance, which typically strengthens your case when requesting Green Card sponsorship later.
Use verified sponsorship data when searching for roles
Not every job posting reflects actual sponsorship willingness. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, making it easier to identify which Thornton Tomasetti openings are genuinely accessible to international candidates.
Raise sponsorship in the offer stage, not the first interview
In professional services hiring, immigration conversations typically happen after an offer is in progress. Thornton Tomasetti's HR and legal teams handle sponsorship decisions formally, so waiting until the offer stage avoids early friction and signals confidence.
Align your role with demonstrable specialty occupation criteria
Green Card petitions under EB-2 or EB-3 require the position to meet specialty occupation standards. At a firm like Thornton Tomasetti, roles tied to licensed engineering practice or advanced project management have a cleaner path through the PERM and I-140 process.
Thornton Tomasetti Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Thornton Tomasetti sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, Thornton Tomasetti sponsors Green Card visas for qualifying employees. The firm operates in engineering and consulting, where retaining specialized international talent is a business priority. Sponsorship is generally available to employees in technical roles who have demonstrated sustained performance and are on a nonimmigrant work visa such as the H-1B visa or E-3 visa.
Which roles at Thornton Tomasetti are most likely to receive Green Card sponsorship?
Green Card sponsorship at Thornton Tomasetti is most common in technical and project-facing disciplines, including structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, building technology, and environmental consulting. Roles that require advanced degrees or professional licensure tend to qualify most cleanly under EB-2 or EB-3 category requirements, which are the pathways the firm typically uses.
How does the Green Card application process work at Thornton Tomasetti?
Thornton Tomasetti follows the standard employer-sponsored Green Card process: PERM labor certification filed with the Department of Labor, followed by an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS, and then adjustment of status or consular processing depending on your situation. The firm's legal team or outside immigration counsel manages the filings, but you'll need to provide employment history, education records, and other documentation.
How long does Green Card sponsorship take at Thornton Tomasetti?
The total timeline depends heavily on your country of birth and the visa category used. PERM alone can take one to two years, and the I-140 adds additional processing time. For applicants from India or China in the EB-3 category, priority date backlogs can extend the wait significantly beyond the initial petition stage. EB-1C or EB-2 NIW paths, if applicable, can move faster.
How do I find Green Card jobs at Thornton Tomasetti as an international candidate?
Start by identifying open roles in engineering or technical consulting that match your background. Migrate Mate lists verified Green Card sponsors including Thornton Tomasetti, so you can confirm sponsorship history before applying rather than discovering late in the process that a role won't support your immigration needs. Prioritize applying to departments where the firm has an established pattern of filing Green Card petitions.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at Thornton Tomasetti?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
