Job Roles at University of Oregon
How to Get Visa Sponsorship in University of Oregon Green Card Visa Sponsorship Jobs USA
Target faculty and research roles first
University of Oregon's Green Card sponsorship is most common for tenure-track faculty and specialized research positions. These roles typically require advanced degrees and offer the clearest path to employer-sponsored permanent residency through EB-2 or EB-3 categories.
Understand the EB-2 NIW option for researchers
Researchers at University of Oregon may qualify for an EB-2 National Interest Waiver, which doesn't require employer sponsorship. If your work has broad national impact, this self-petition route can run parallel to or instead of university-initiated sponsorship.
Ask about sponsorship during the offer stage
University of Oregon's HR and international staff offices handle Green Card petitions departmentally. Raise sponsorship intentions before signing your offer letter so the department can plan PERM timelines and budget for legal and filing costs.
Expect PERM labor certification to anchor the timeline
Most Green Card filings at universities go through the PERM process, where the Department of Labor certifies no qualified U.S. workers are available. For education roles, this recruitment process is structured but can take a year or more before the I-140 is filed.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified Green Card-sponsoring roles
Not every University of Oregon posting leads to Green Card sponsorship. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, helping you focus your applications on departments and roles with an active track record.
Build tenure and relationships before requesting sponsorship
Universities typically initiate Green Card sponsorship for employees they intend to retain long-term. Demonstrating value through publications, grants, or strong performance reviews signals to department heads that sponsorship is a worthwhile institutional investment.

Does University of Oregon sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, University of Oregon sponsors Green Card visas for eligible employees, primarily in faculty, research, and specialized professional roles. Sponsorship is typically employer-initiated and processed through the PERM labor certification route, followed by an I-140 petition. Not every role qualifies, so it's worth confirming sponsorship eligibility with HR before or during the offer process.
Which roles and departments at University of Oregon are most likely to receive Green Card sponsorship?
Tenure-track faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and specialized professional staff in departments like the sciences, engineering, business, and law are most commonly sponsored. Administrative and support roles are less frequently sponsored. Departments with strong research output and grant funding tend to have both the budget and institutional motivation to initiate Green Card filings.
How does the Green Card application process work at University of Oregon?
University of Oregon typically sponsors Green Card applicants through the EB-2 or EB-3 employment-based categories. The process begins with PERM labor certification, where the university advertises the role and documents that no qualified U.S. workers applied. After PERM approval, the university files an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. If your priority date is current, you can then file for adjustment of status or consular processing.
How long does Green Card sponsorship take at University of Oregon?
The full timeline depends on your visa category and country of birth. PERM labor certification alone can take one to two years. After an approved I-140, applicants from countries with high demand, particularly India and China, may face lengthy priority date backlogs before a visa number becomes available. Applicants from most other countries can often proceed to adjustment of status more quickly after I-140 approval.
How do I improve my chances of getting Green Card sponsorship at University of Oregon?
Apply for roles where long-term retention is expected, such as tenure-track faculty or senior research positions. Use Migrate Mate to identify University of Oregon listings tied to verified sponsorship history. Once employed, demonstrate your value through research output, institutional contributions, and department relationships. Departments initiate sponsorship for people they see as long-term investments, so building that case early matters.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at University of Oregon?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
