Job Roles at University of Tennessee Health Science Center
How to Get Visa Sponsorship in University of Tennessee Health Science Center Green Card Visa Sponsorship Jobs USA
Target research and faculty roles first
UTHSC's strongest Green Card track record sits in academic and research positions. Faculty appointments, postdoctoral researchers, and clinical scientists are the roles most commonly supported through employer-sponsored permanent residency at health science institutions.
Understand the EB-2 NIW advantage for researchers
If your work has national significance, you may qualify for an EB-2 National Interest Waiver without employer sponsorship. UTHSC researchers in biomedical fields are frequently strong candidates, so explore this pathway alongside employer-sponsored options.
Ask about sponsorship policy during the offer stage
Green Card sponsorship commitments vary by department at academic medical centers. Raise the question directly during salary negotiation or with HR before signing, it's standard practice and far easier to clarify then than after you've started.
Filter for verified sponsors before applying
Not every UTHSC posting will lead to Green Card support. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, helping you focus applications on roles with an actual track record of permanent residency filings.
Align your timeline with PERM processing realities
The PERM labor certification process can take well over a year before your I-140 petition is even filed. Start conversations with UTHSC HR early in your employment, ideally within your first year, to avoid status gaps while waiting.
Leverage UTHSC's academic exempt status for H-1B stability
As a public university system, UTHSC is H-1B cap-exempt, which provides visa stability while your Green Card case is pending. This makes it easier to maintain lawful status throughout the multi-year sponsorship process without lottery risk.

Does University of Tennessee Health Science Center sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, University of Tennessee Health Science Center sponsors Green Card visas for qualifying employees. Like most academic health science institutions, UTHSC focuses its permanent residency support on faculty, researchers, and specialized clinical professionals whose roles require advanced degrees and are difficult to fill domestically. Sponsorship decisions are made at the departmental level, so support levels can vary across hiring units.
Which roles and departments at UTHSC are most likely to receive Green Card sponsorship?
Research faculty, tenure-track professors, postdoctoral scientists, and specialized clinical staff in fields like medicine, pharmacy, nursing, and dentistry are the positions most commonly sponsored for Green Card at institutions like UTHSC. Departments tied to biomedical research, graduate education, and clinical training tend to have the strongest history of supporting permanent residency for international hires.
How does the Green Card application process work at University of Tennessee Health Science Center?
UTHSC typically sponsors through the EB-2 or EB-3 employment-based preference categories. The process starts with PERM labor certification, where the Department of Labor verifies no qualified U.S. workers were available. After PERM approval, UTHSC files an I-140 petition with USCIS. Once your priority date becomes current, you file for adjustment of status or pursue consular processing to obtain your Green Card.
How long does Green Card sponsorship take at UTHSC?
The timeline depends heavily on your country of birth and the visa preference category. For most nationalities, the process from PERM filing to Green Card approval takes two to four years. Applicants born in India or China face significantly longer waits due to per-country annual limits. Starting conversations with HR early in your employment is the most practical way to protect your timeline.
How do I improve my chances of finding a Green Card-sponsoring role at UTHSC?
Focus your search on research-intensive departments and faculty-track positions, where sponsorship is most common. Confirm sponsorship willingness before accepting any offer rather than assuming it. Migrate Mate lets you search verified Green Card sponsors and see which employers have active sponsorship histories, so you can apply with more confidence that the role will actually lead to permanent residency support.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at University of Tennessee Health Science Center?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
