- Build a data foundation by incorporating business logic into raw data tables, laying the groundwork to enable value-add insights
- Create a dynamic reporting environment based on stakeholder needs
- Identify data discrepancies and set best practices for data logic to create a clean and well-documented environment
- Collaborate with broader data organization as steward to the definition and process management of core Gusto metrics
Here’s What We're Looking For
- Education or work experience in Engineering or Computer Science, or a related technical field
- 7+ years of experience in an analytics engineering, business intelligence, or technical data analytics role
- Experience with SQL and ETL optimization techniques, especially within cloud-based data warehouses like Redshift, Snowflake, etc.
- Command-line experience and familiarity with version control collaboration tools (git)
- Experience with data pipeline management technologies with dependency checking, such as Airflow, as well as schema design and data modeling tools (dbt)
- Experience with data visualization technologies, e.g., Tableau, Looker, Sigma, Mode, Hex
- Experience with Python and data ingestion tools
- Ability to problem-solve open-ended problems and project manage dependencies and timelines to optimal outcomes
- Ability to demonstrate tools, business intuition, and attention to detail for data validation and QA
Compensation
Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $138,000-156,000 in Denver & most remote locations, and $168,000-189,000 in New York & San Francisco Bay Area. Stock equity is additional. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
Work Arrangement
Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). Frame your portfolio around financial data pipelines
Gusto's analytics engineering work centers on payroll and benefits data at scale. Showcase projects involving complex data modeling, dbt, or Snowflake in financial or transactional contexts. Generic dashboarding experience won't differentiate you in this hiring pool.
Verify Gusto's LCA filings before your interview
The DOL's OFLC disclosure database shows Labor Condition Applications filed by employer and job title. Checking Gusto's LCA history for analytics engineering roles tells you the prevailing wage tiers they've filed under and what salary bands to expect in offer negotiations.
Clarify visa category eligibility early in the process
Gusto sponsors both H-1B and E-3 visas for this role. If you're Australian, the E-3 bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely and can be filed directly at a U.S. consulate. Raise your visa type with the recruiter before the offer stage so the right petition path is planned from the start.
Align your degree field to specialty occupation requirements
USCIS requires that analytics engineering roles qualify as specialty occupations, meaning your degree must be in a directly related field like computer science, statistics, or information systems. A degree in an unrelated discipline weakens the petition even if your work experience is strong.
Time your application around H-1B cap deadlines
If you need an H-1B, USCIS opens registration each March for the October 1 start date. Missing that window means waiting a full year unless you qualify for a cap-exempt filing. Confirm with Gusto's HR team which fiscal quarter they plan to file so your start date aligns.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Data Analytics Engineer roles at Gusto
Gusto posts analytics engineering roles across different teams and experience levels, but not all openings surface consistently on general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Gusto roles that include visa sponsorship, so you're targeting verified positions rather than guessing from outdated listings.

Find Data Analytics Engineer at Gusto JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Gusto sponsor H-1B visas for Data Analytics Engineers?
Yes, Gusto sponsors H-1B visas for Data Analytics Engineer roles. Because H-1B is subject to an annual cap and lottery, timing matters. USCIS accepts registrations in March for an October 1 start. If you're already in the U.S. on a valid work visa with remaining time, Gusto can file a transfer without waiting for the next cap cycle.
Which visa types does Gusto commonly use for Data Analytics Engineer roles?
Gusto sponsors H-1B, E-3, and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for this function. Australian nationals are well-positioned here because the E-3 skips the H-1B lottery and has a much faster consular processing timeline. The right visa depends on your nationality, current status, and whether you're applying from inside or outside the U.S.
What qualifications are expected for Data Analytics Engineer roles at Gusto?
Gusto typically looks for experience with data modeling tools like dbt, cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake or BigQuery, and strong SQL fundamentals. Given the company's focus on payroll and financial products, familiarity with high-volume transactional data is a differentiator. A bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, statistics, or a related technical field is generally expected.
How do I apply for Data Analytics Engineer jobs at Gusto?
You can find and apply for Data Analytics Engineer roles at Gusto through Migrate Mate, which filters for positions that include visa sponsorship so you're not sifting through listings that won't support your immigration needs. Once you identify a role, applications go directly through Gusto's careers portal. Tailoring your application to highlight data pipeline work in financial or SaaS environments improves your fit signal significantly.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take once Gusto extends an offer?
Timeline depends on visa type. For an H-1B transfer or cap-exempt filing, USCIS standard processing runs three to six months, with premium processing available to reduce that to roughly 15 business days. For E-3 applicants going through consular processing in Australia, the timeline from LCA approval to visa stamp is often four to eight weeks. Confirm your start date flexibility with Gusto's HR team before signing an offer.
