Align your credentials to Hatch's technical disciplines
Hatch hires primarily across engineering disciplines like civil, mechanical, electrical, and process engineering. Before applying, verify your degree field maps directly to the role's specialty occupation definition, since USCIS scrutinizes the degree-to-job alignment closely in consulting and engineering petitions.
Research Hatch's prevailing wage obligations before negotiating
Your offered salary must meet the DOL prevailing wage for your job title and work location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up wage levels by SOC code before your offer conversation, so you're not caught off guard by a Level I wage that undersells your experience.
Target project-based roles tied to active client contracts
Hatch staffs heavily around long-term infrastructure and energy projects. Roles tied to active client contracts are more likely to get expedited internal approval for H-1B sponsorship, since the business need is already documented and the hire is directly billable to a funded engagement.
Clarify sponsorship intent before the final interview round
Consulting firms often assess H-1B sponsorship case-by-case rather than as a blanket policy. Ask your recruiter directly whether the specific role and practice group have sponsored before, and confirm whether Hatch uses premium processing to meet project start dates.
Use Migrate Mate to identify Hatch's verified H-1B filing history
Before applying, search Hatch on Migrate Mate to see which job titles and practice areas the firm has filed H-1B petitions for. That history tells you which roles have a real precedent for sponsorship, so you can focus your application on positions most likely to get approved.
Prepare your O*NET occupation profile before the petition stage
Hatch's immigration counsel will need to establish specialty occupation status for your role. Pull the O*NET profile for your job title in advance, noting the education requirements and typical duties, so you can help your employer build a stronger, faster petition package.
Hatch H-1B Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Hatch sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Hatch sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying technical and professional roles. Sponsorship is most common in engineering disciplines across the firm's infrastructure, energy, and mining practice areas. Availability depends on the specific role, practice group, and project pipeline at the time of hire, so confirming sponsorship intent early in the process is important.
Which roles at Hatch are most likely to receive H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship at Hatch is concentrated in engineering and technical consulting roles, including civil, mechanical, electrical, and process engineers, as well as project managers and technical specialists on large capital projects. Corporate and administrative roles are less commonly sponsored. Roles directly tied to billable client work tend to have stronger internal sponsorship approval.
How do I start the H-1B application process at Hatch?
Once Hatch extends an offer, their HR or immigration team typically engages an outside immigration counsel to manage the petition. You'll need to provide your educational credentials, employment history, and degree transcripts. USCIS must receive cap-subject H-1B petitions by the April filing deadline, so your start date needs to align with the October 1 cap year.
How do I know if a Hatch job posting is open to H-1B candidates?
Most Hatch job postings don't explicitly state H-1B sponsorship availability. The most reliable approach is to search Hatch's verified H-1B filing history on Migrate Mate, which shows which job titles and locations have a documented sponsorship precedent. You can also ask your recruiter directly whether the role and team have sponsored before.
What timeline should I expect for H-1B sponsorship at Hatch?
For cap-subject H-1B petitions, USCIS opens registration in March, with a lottery in late March and a filing window in April. Standard processing typically takes three to six months, with an October 1 employment start date. Hatch may use premium processing to expedite USCIS adjudication to around 15 business days for time-sensitive project hires.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Hatch?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
