Job Roles at Johnson Controls
How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Johnson Controls H-1B Visa Sponsorship Jobs USA
Target engineering and technical roles
Johnson Controls's H-1B sponsorship is concentrated in specialty occupation roles: controls engineers, software developers, and systems architects. Applying for clearly technical positions gives you a stronger foundation for sponsorship approval than generalist or support roles.
Align your degree to the job description
H-1B eligibility requires a direct connection between your degree field and the role. At Johnson Controls, this means a degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or computer science is far more competitive than an unrelated field, even with relevant experience.
Engage early with the recruiting process
Johnson Controls's H-1B sponsorship decisions often happen during offer negotiations. Raising your visa needs early in conversations with recruiters avoids late-stage surprises and gives hiring managers time to get internal approval from HR and legal before extending an offer.
Focus on divisions with high technical headcount
Building Technologies and Solutions, Global Products, and Digital Solutions are Johnson Controls's most engineering-intensive divisions. Roles in these business units have historically aligned most closely with the specialty occupation standard H-1B petitions require.
Use verified sponsorship data to prioritize your applications
Not every Johnson Controls role will come with sponsorship. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, helping you identify which openings are realistically accessible before investing time in a full application.
Prepare for the H-1B lottery timeline upfront
H-1B cap-subject petitions are lottery-dependent, with registration typically opening in March. If you're targeting Johnson Controls for a cap-subject role, coordinate your job search timeline so an offer can be in place before registration opens.

Does Johnson Controls sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Johnson Controls sponsors H-1B visas for qualified international candidates. Sponsorship is focused on specialty occupation roles in engineering, software development, and technical operations. Not every open position will come with sponsorship, so confirming visa support directly with recruiters during the application process is essential before accepting an offer.
Which roles and departments at Johnson Controls are most likely to receive H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship at Johnson Controls is most common in engineering and technology roles, including controls engineers, software engineers, systems engineers, and product development specialists. These positions fall clearly within the specialty occupation standard. Corporate functions like sales, marketing, and general management are less likely to be sponsored.
How do I navigate the H-1B application process at Johnson Controls?
Once Johnson Controls extends an offer and confirms sponsorship, their legal or immigration team files a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor, followed by an I-129 petition with USCIS. For cap-subject candidates, your petition enters the H-1B lottery. Johnson Controls coordinates this process internally, but staying in regular contact with your recruiter keeps things moving.
How do I plan my timeline when pursuing H-1B sponsorship at Johnson Controls?
If you need a cap-subject H-1B, USCIS registration typically opens in March and approved petitions take effect October 1. That means securing a Johnson Controls offer well before March is critical. Cap-exempt roles, such as positions at affiliated nonprofits or research institutions, follow a different timeline with no lottery wait.
How do I find H-1B jobs at Johnson Controls that are open to international candidates?
Johnson Controls posts openings on its careers site, but listings rarely specify visa sponsorship availability. Migrate Mate filters job opportunities by verified H-1B sponsorship history, making it easier to identify Johnson Controls roles where international candidates have a realistic chance, rather than applying broadly and discovering sponsorship limitations late in the process.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Johnson Controls?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
