Align your degree to the role
Sony Interactive Entertainment's H-1B petitions depend on demonstrating specialty occupation, meaning your degree must directly relate to the job. Check the O*NET profile for your target role to confirm the standard education requirement before applying, not after receiving an offer.
Target engineering and platform teams
SIE's H-1B filings cluster in software engineering, platform infrastructure, and game technology disciplines. Prioritize job postings in these teams over generalist or operational roles, which are far less likely to result in a sponsored petition reaching USCIS.
Raise sponsorship early in interviews
Sony Interactive Entertainment's recruiting process moves quickly through technical screens. Confirm the role is H-1B eligible before your final round, not during the offer stage, so neither side wastes time if the position sits outside SIE's standard sponsorship criteria.
Verify the prevailing wage before negotiating
Your H-1B offer must meet or exceed the DOL prevailing wage for your role and work location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the Level I through Level IV thresholds for your job title before you enter salary negotiations with SIE's compensation team.
File before the April cap deadline
H-1B cap registrations open in March each year. Your SIE offer letter and petition documents must be ready before USCIS closes the lottery window, typically within a two-week registration period. Missing this window means waiting a full year for the next cap cycle.
Use Migrate Mate to track SIE's filing history
Before committing to SIE as your sponsoring employer, verify their LCA filing record by role and location on Migrate Mate. This shows which job titles SIE has actually sponsored, so you can confirm your target position has a real track record of H-1B approval.
Sony Interactive Entertainment H-1B Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Sony Interactive Entertainment sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Sony Interactive Entertainment sponsors H-1B visas for qualified candidates in technology and software roles. Sponsorship is most consistent in software engineering, platform development, and game technology positions. SIE has maintained active H-1B filings and participates in the annual cap lottery process through USCIS each spring.
Which roles and departments at Sony Interactive Entertainment typically receive H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship at SIE concentrates in technical departments: software engineering, platform and cloud infrastructure, game engine development, and data science. Roles requiring a specialized degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a directly related field are the strongest candidates. Generalist, sales, and non-technical positions rarely qualify for H-1B under the specialty occupation standard.
How do I navigate the H-1B application process at Sony Interactive Entertainment?
After SIE extends a conditional offer, their immigration legal team files a Labor Condition Application with DOL and then submits the H-1B petition to USCIS during the annual cap season. Your role is to provide credential documentation and work closely with SIE's appointed immigration counsel. Migrate Mate can help you understand each filing milestone so you're not caught off guard.
How long does the H-1B process take at Sony Interactive Entertainment?
The standard H-1B timeline runs from the March registration lottery through an October 1 start date, roughly six to seven months end to end. If your petition is selected and SIE opts for premium processing, USCIS adjudicates within 15 business days of receipt. Without premium processing, standard adjudication can take several additional months.
How do I strengthen my H-1B application when targeting Sony Interactive Entertainment?
Document the direct connection between your academic credentials and your target role at SIE using the O*NET job profile as a reference. Confirm the role's prevailing wage tier through the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating your offer. Ensure all academic transcripts and credential evaluations are ready before SIE's immigration team begins the LCA filing with DOL.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Sony Interactive Entertainment?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
