Align Your Degree to BD Specialty Areas
H-1B eligibility requires a specialty occupation, so frame your credentials around marketing strategy, business analytics, or client relations rather than general management. A degree in communications or business that maps to a defined BD function strengthens your petition considerably.
Target Husch Blackwell's Practice Group Hires
Husch Blackwell structures BD support around specific practice groups like healthcare, energy, and financial services. Applying to openings tied to a practice area you have industry-specific knowledge in signals immediate value and increases your chances of clearing internal sponsorship approval.
Verify Your OPT Timeline Before Applying
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your STEM extension eligibility and remaining authorized period before accepting an offer. Legal sector BD roles often require onboarding timelines that can catch visa holders off guard if cap-gap or STEM extension planning hasn't started.
Initiate the LCA Conversation Early in Negotiations
Ask your recruiter which office location your role is tied to before the offer stage. The Labor Condition Application is filed with DOL for a specific worksite, and Husch Blackwell's multi-office structure means your LCA prevailing wage determination will vary depending on where you're placed.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Open BD Roles
Filtering for Business Development openings at law firms that actively sponsor visas saves significant time. Use Migrate Mate to identify current Husch Blackwell BD postings filtered by visa type so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is already a known part of the hiring process.
Prepare for TN Status If You Hold Canadian or Mexican Citizenship
TN classification covers business-relevant categories like management consultants and accountants. If your BD role at Husch Blackwell fits a qualifying TN category, this pathway bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely and can be processed at the border without USCIS filing delays.

Find Business Development at Husch Blackwell JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Husch Blackwell sponsor H-1B visas for Business Developments?
Yes, Husch Blackwell has sponsored H-1B visas for Business Development roles. Sponsorship is evaluated on a role-by-role basis, so the specific position, its degree requirements, and the practice group it supports all factor into the decision. Business Development positions that require specialized expertise in a defined field are most likely to qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards.
How do I apply for Business Development jobs at Husch Blackwell?
Applications are submitted through Husch Blackwell's careers portal, where Business Development openings are listed by office location and practice group. Tailoring your application to the firm's specific industry verticals, such as healthcare, financial services, or energy, gives you a stronger positioning than a generalist pitch. Migrate Mate also lists current Husch Blackwell BD openings filtered by visa sponsorship type, which helps you prioritize roles where international hiring is already expected.
Which visa types are commonly used for Business Development roles at Husch Blackwell?
H-1B is the most common path for Business Development professionals at large law firms like Husch Blackwell, particularly for roles requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. F-1 OPT and STEM OPT extensions are frequently used for recent graduates entering BD analyst or coordinator roles. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN status if the role maps to an eligible TN occupation category. J-1 is less common but occasionally used for exchange-based business roles.
What qualifications does Husch Blackwell expect for Business Development roles?
Most Business Development roles at Husch Blackwell require a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communications, or a related field, along with demonstrated experience in client-facing or professional services environments. Roles supporting specific practice groups often expect familiarity with that industry sector. Senior BD positions typically require prior law firm or professional services experience, and strong writing skills are consistently emphasized given the proposal and pitch-heavy nature of legal BD work.
How do I time my visa filing if I receive an offer from Husch Blackwell?
If you're sponsored for an H-1B, your employer files the registration during the annual lottery period in March, with employment starting October 1 if selected. If you're on OPT when you receive an offer, your cap-gap protection covers you through September 30 while the H-1B petition is pending. For TN visas, there's no lottery and processing can happen at a port of entry, which allows for much faster start dates. Confirm your current status end date with USCIS records before committing to a start date.
