Align your bar admission with Husch Blackwell's markets
Husch Blackwell operates across multiple states, and Legal Associate offers are typically contingent on bar admission in the relevant jurisdiction. Confirm which state bar you're pursuing before applying, since sponsorship decisions often hinge on licensure timelines.
Target practice groups with demonstrated hiring activity
Husch Blackwell's transactional, regulatory, and healthcare practices regularly recruit associates. Research open roles by practice area and prioritize groups where your law school coursework and clinic experience directly match the work described.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Legal Associate openings by visa type
Not every Husch Blackwell role listing makes sponsorship eligibility obvious. Use Migrate Mate to browse verified openings filtered by the visa types the firm sponsors, so you spend time on roles where your status is already accounted for.
Time your OPT start date around a realistic offer timeline
Law firm hiring cycles run on academic calendars. If you're on F-1, activate OPT to align with a summer or fall start date, giving you enough runway before your 12-month authorization window narrows and an H-1B petition needs to be filed.
Ask recruiters directly about H-1B cap-subject versus cap-exempt status
If your H-1B has already been counted against the annual cap, confirm with Husch Blackwell's recruiting team early. A previously approved cap-subject petition can transfer without re-entering the lottery, which changes the sponsorship timeline for both sides.
Prepare your credentials package before the offer stage
Law firm immigration filings move quickly once an offer is extended. Have your law school transcripts, diploma, bar exam results, and any prior visa documentation ready so the firm's immigration counsel can begin the Labor Condition Application with DOL without delays.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Husch Blackwell sponsor H-1B visas for Legal Associates?
Yes, Husch Blackwell sponsors H-1B visas for Legal Associates. Law firms routinely file H-1B petitions for associates who completed U.S. law degrees on F-1 status and have exhausted or are approaching the end of OPT. Sponsorship is generally tied to a confirmed offer and bar admission in the relevant state. The process requires your employer to file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before USCIS can adjudicate the petition.
How do I apply for Legal Associate jobs at Husch Blackwell?
Applications go through Husch Blackwell's careers portal, where roles are listed by practice group and office location. For visa-sponsored openings specifically, Migrate Mate lets you browse verified Legal Associate positions at Husch Blackwell filtered by the visa types the firm supports, which helps you focus on roles where your immigration status is already a known factor in the hiring process.
Which visa types are commonly used for Legal Associate roles at Husch Blackwell?
Legal Associates at Husch Blackwell are most commonly sponsored under H-1B, with F-1 OPT and CPT covering early-career candidates still within their post-graduation authorization window. TN status is available for Canadian and Mexican attorneys whose roles meet the relevant USMCA category requirements. J-1 visa is less common for associate-level roles but may apply in specific exchange visitor arrangements.
What qualifications does Husch Blackwell expect from Legal Associate candidates?
Husch Blackwell typically requires a J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and admission to, or active pursuit of, bar admission in the hiring office's jurisdiction. Relevant law school coursework, clinic experience, or a prior summer associate position at the firm strengthens your candidacy. For visa-sponsored candidates, the degree must satisfy the specialty occupation threshold that USCIS applies to H-1B petitions.
How do I manage the timing between a Husch Blackwell offer and my visa filing deadline?
Law firm offers for full-time associates often come 9 to 12 months before a start date, which aligns well with the H-1B cap filing window that opens each April for an October 1 start. If you're on OPT, confirm your authorization expiration date with your DSO immediately after receiving an offer so the firm's immigration counsel can assess whether a cap-gap extension or premium processing under USCIS is needed to cover any gap.
