Target roles aligned with Green Card sponsorship
Illumina's sponsorship activity is concentrated in Green Card pathways like EB-2 and EB-3. Focus your applications on scientific, engineering, and technical roles where employer-sponsored permanent residency is a realistic part of the offer.
Understand Illumina's OPT sponsorship for recent graduates
Illumina sponsors F-1 OPT, making it a viable option for recent graduates in life sciences or engineering. If your OPT window is active, prioritize applying early, genomics roles at Illumina tend to attract competitive candidate pools.
Canadian professionals should explore the TN pathway
Illumina sponsors TN visas, which means Canadian citizens in qualifying scientific or engineering roles may have a faster entry point. TN sponsorship at Illumina can be a practical alternative while long-term Green Card processing is underway.
Research Illumina's hiring by department before applying
Illumina's sponsorship is strongest in research, bioinformatics, hardware engineering, and regulatory affairs. Tailoring your application to departments with a clear need for specialized technical expertise improves your chances of landing a role that qualifies for sponsorship.
Be prepared for a multi-stage technical hiring process

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Illumina sponsor H-1B visas?
Based on available disclosure data, Illumina's sponsorship activity is concentrated in employer-sponsored Green Cards through EB-2 and EB-3 pathways, along with F-1 OPT and TN visas. H-1B visa sponsorship does not appear prominently in Illumina's recent filings. Candidates who need H-1B status should clarify sponsorship options directly with Illumina's talent acquisition team during the recruitment process.
What visa types does Illumina sponsor?
Illumina sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for permanent residency, F-1 OPT for recent graduates on work authorization, and TN visas for qualifying Canadian professionals. This mix reflects a company that invests in long-term immigration support for technical talent, particularly in scientific and engineering disciplines.
Which departments at Illumina are most likely to offer visa sponsorship?
Illumina's sponsorship is most common in roles requiring specialized domain expertise, think bioinformatics, genomics research, hardware and software engineering, manufacturing, and regulatory affairs. These are areas where Illumina competes for a limited global talent pool, making immigration sponsorship a practical necessity rather than an exception to policy.
How do I find currently open sponsored roles at Illumina?
Migrate Mate is the most efficient way to find Illumina roles that come with real sponsorship support. Rather than guessing from generic job listings, Migrate Mate lets you filter by company sponsorship history and visa type, so you can browse Illumina's current openings with confidence that the company actively sponsors international candidates.
How do I know if Illumina's Green Card sponsorship applies to my role?
EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship at Illumina is typically initiated after an offer is accepted and usually follows PERM labor certification. Not every role automatically comes with a Green Card commitment, so it's worth asking the recruiter directly whether the position includes a defined immigration support policy. Roles in highly specialized scientific or engineering functions are the most common candidates for EB sponsorship.
