Target faculty and research postings first
Jackson State University's sponsorship activity is concentrated in academic and research roles. Focus your search on faculty positions, postdoctoral appointments, and research scientist roles, where H-1B sponsorship is most commonly offered for qualified international candidates.
Understand the university's hiring calendar
University hiring at Jackson State follows the academic year cycle. Faculty searches typically open in the fall for positions starting the following academic year, so aligning your application timeline with that cycle significantly improves your chances of landing a sponsored role.
Highlight your specialty occupation credentials clearly
For H-1B sponsorship at a university, your degree must directly relate to your role. In your application materials, explicitly connect your academic background to the position's requirements, this makes the specialty occupation case easier for Jackson State's HR and legal teams.
Ask about F-1 OPT and CPT pathways early
Jackson State University supports F-1 students through both OPT and CPT. If you're currently on an F-1 visa and exploring on-campus or affiliated employment, confirm with the international student office which roles qualify and how to initiate authorization before your program ends.
Use a platform that verifies sponsorship history
Not every job posting at Jackson State will mention sponsorship explicitly. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, saving you time applying to roles where sponsorship may not actually be available.
Connect with Jackson State's international office before applying
Jackson State's Office of International Programs works closely with HR on sponsored hires. Reaching out before or during your application signals genuine interest and helps you understand exactly which steps the university requires to initiate the sponsorship process.

Roles in STEM disciplines and professional academic departments tend to see the most sponsorship activity.
What visa types does Jackson State University sponsor?
Jackson State University sponsors H-1B visas for professional and academic hires, and supports F-1 students through both OPT and CPT for eligible on-campus and affiliated roles. How do I approach the application process at Jackson State University as an international candidate?
Apply through Jackson State's official HR portal and address your visa status clearly in any cover letter or supporting materials. Once you receive an offer, the university's HR team will coordinate with their immigration counsel to begin the sponsorship process.
