Align your background to etch or deposition
Lam Research's Research Product Manager roles are concentrated in its etch, deposition, and clean product lines. Frame your resume around process module experience, not generic product management. Hiring managers here evaluate whether you can own a technical roadmap from the fab floor up.
Verify your visa category before applying
Lam sponsors several nonimmigrant categories, but your eligibility depends on your degree field and current status. An F-1 OPT candidate with a PhD in chemical engineering is positioned differently than a TN-eligible Canadian. Confirm your category matches the role's specialty occupation criteria before outreach.
Use Migrate Mate to filter live openings by sponsorship
Lam posts Research Product Manager roles across multiple job boards, but not all listings signal sponsorship availability. Use Migrate Mate to surface verified openings at Lam where sponsorship is confirmed, so you're not chasing roles that won't move forward for international candidates.
Prepare a DOL-ready employment history record
Once Lam initiates H-1B or PERM sponsorship, the Department of Labor's prevailing wage and Labor Condition Application process requires precise documentation of your prior roles, responsibilities, and compensation. Having a clean, chronological employment record ready shortens this stage significantly.
Target Lam's Fremont and Portland sites specifically
Research Product Manager headcount at Lam is heaviest at its Fremont headquarters and Tualatin, Oregon campus, where core etch and deposition R&D lives. Applications routed to these sites reach teams with established sponsorship workflows and recurring hiring cycles for this function.
Request a clear sponsorship timeline during the offer stage
If Lam extends an offer, ask the recruiter to outline whether they'll file for H-1B change of status, consular processing, or an OPT extension bridge. Understanding which path they're planning determines your start date, your 60-day grace period exposure, and any gap in work authorization.

Find Research Product Manager at Lam Research JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Lam Research sponsor H-1B visas for Research Product Managers?
Yes, Lam Research sponsors H-1B visas for Research Product Manager roles. These positions qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria because they require at least a bachelor's degree in a technical field such as electrical engineering, materials science, or chemical engineering. Lam has an established sponsorship process and works with immigration counsel to file petitions and Labor Condition Applications with the DOL.
How do I apply for Research Product Manager jobs at Lam Research?
Applications go through Lam Research's careers portal, where Research Product Manager openings are listed by product line and site. To find roles that explicitly support visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate to browse verified Lam Research openings filtered for international candidates. Tailoring your application to a specific product area, such as etch or CVD, will give you a stronger signal-to-noise ratio with their recruiting team.
Which visa types does Lam Research commonly use for Research Product Manager roles?
Lam Research sponsors H-1B visas for mid-career Research Product Managers and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for candidates still completing or recently finishing graduate programs. TN status is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals whose degree and role meet NAFTA-defined categories. For long-term employees, Lam also initiates EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process with the DOL.
What qualifications does Lam Research expect for Research Product Manager roles?
Lam typically expects a graduate degree in semiconductor process engineering, materials science, electrical engineering, or a closely related discipline. Industry experience inside a fab or equipment company is weighted heavily, particularly familiarity with etch, deposition, or planarization modules. Product management experience at the intersection of engineering and customer roadmaps is the differentiator, and candidates who've worked cross-functionally with process integration teams are consistently competitive.
How do I plan my timeline if Lam Research is sponsoring my H-1B?
The H-1B cap lottery runs once per year, with USCIS accepting registrations in March for an October 1 start date. If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm whether your remaining authorization covers the gap until October. Lam can file for premium processing to get a decision within 15 business days once the petition is accepted, which helps resolve uncertainty faster if your OPT expiration is approaching.
