Verify your licensure transfers across state lines
LifeStance operates clinics in dozens of states, and your LCSW, LPC, or LMFT must be active in the specific state where the role is posted. Confirm reciprocity or endorsement timelines before applying, since unlicensed candidates rarely advance to sponsorship conversations.
Target markets with documented therapist shortages
LifeStance consistently posts Behavioral Health Therapist openings in states with designated Mental Health Professional Shortage Areas. Roles in shortage-designated regions often move faster through PERM labor market testing because the DOL already recognizes the recruitment need.
Distinguish EB-2 and EB-3 paths early in negotiations
For Behavioral Health Therapist roles, EB-3 is the more common sponsorship route since the position typically requires a master's degree rather than a doctorate. Clarify with LifeStance's HR team which category they intend to file under before accepting an offer.
Use Migrate Mate to filter LifeStance openings by visa type
LifeStance posts Behavioral Health Therapist roles across hundreds of locations, which makes it hard to identify which positions align with your specific visa situation. Migrate Mate lets you filter by sponsorship type so you apply only to roles where your status is a fit.
Get your credential evaluation completed before your interview
If your clinical degree is from outside the U.S., LifeStance will need a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved evaluator to confirm equivalency. Having this ready before your first interview signals readiness and removes a common delay in the offer stage.
Understand TN status limitations for Canadian and Mexican therapists
TN classification covers psychologists but does not cover licensed counselors or social workers, so if your title is LPC or LCSW rather than PhD-level psychologist, TN is likely off the table. Confirm your exact role classification with LifeStance's immigration counsel before assuming TN eligibility.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does LifeStance Health sponsor H-1B visas for Behavioral Health Therapists?
LifeStance Health's primary sponsorship pathways for Behavioral Health Therapists are employment-based Green Card categories, specifically EB-2 and EB-3, rather than H-1B visa. H-1B sponsorship is possible but less common for clinical therapy roles at LifeStance. If H-1B is your current status, confirm with the hiring team whether they'll support a transfer or cap-exempt filing before advancing in the process.
How do I apply for Behavioral Health Therapist jobs at LifeStance Health?
You can browse and apply for Behavioral Health Therapist positions at LifeStance Health directly through Migrate Mate, which lists their open roles filtered by visa sponsorship type. When applying, confirm in your cover letter or initial outreach that you require sponsorship, since LifeStance recruits across a high volume of locations and routing your application to the right hiring contact early saves time.
Which visa types does LifeStance Health commonly support for Behavioral Health Therapists?
LifeStance Health has sponsored F-1 OPT and F-1 CPT for early-career therapists completing degree requirements, and has pursued employment-based Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-term hires. TN visa classification applies in limited circumstances depending on your exact clinical credential and country of citizenship. Each pathway has different timeline and eligibility constraints worth clarifying before you accept an offer.
What qualifications does LifeStance Health expect for Behavioral Health Therapist roles?
Most Behavioral Health Therapist roles at LifeStance require a master's degree in counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, or a related clinical field, along with an active state license such as an LCSW, LPC, or LMFT. Candidates completing clinical hours toward licensure may qualify for associate-level roles. International candidates should also have a NACES-approved credential evaluation ready to confirm degree equivalency.
How long does the sponsorship and hiring process typically take at LifeStance Health?
For F-1 OPT candidates, the process can move relatively quickly since no USCIS petition is required before starting work. For EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship, the PERM labor certification stage alone can take six months to over a year, followed by additional USCIS processing time. Starting sponsorship conversations during the offer stage, not after signing, is the most effective way to reduce delays.
