Verify your licensure transfers to California
California's BBS licensure requirements can delay your start date if your LCSW, MFT, or LPCC credentials aren't already active or in transfer. Sutter Health's HR team will expect licensure to be in place or close to it before initiating any visa filing.
Target Sutter Health's integrated care postings
Sutter's behavioral health openings are distributed across its hospital campuses and affiliated medical groups. Filtering by facility type helps you identify roles in outpatient versus inpatient settings, which affects both the hiring timeline and how urgently a team needs to fill the position.
Understand how EB-2 and EB-3 pathways apply here
For permanent residency, behavioral health roles at Sutter typically fall under EB-3 for licensed therapists or EB-2 if your role requires an advanced clinical degree. PERM labor certification through DOL is the standard first step, and Sutter's in-house immigration team manages this process.
Ask recruiters about H-1B filing windows early
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start date. If you're interviewing in late winter or spring, ask directly whether Sutter will commit to sponsorship in time for the current USCIS registration cycle or the next.
Browse open Behavioral Health Therapist roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters Sutter Health's job listings by visa sponsorship history, so you can identify which Behavioral Health Therapist postings have an active sponsorship track record. This narrows your applications to roles where sponsorship is a realistic outcome.
Prepare clinical documentation before the offer stage
Sutter Health's credentialing process runs parallel to visa filing and requires diplomas, supervised hours logs, and prior employment verification. Gathering these before you receive an offer prevents delays that can push back your USCIS petition submission date.

Find Behavioral Health Therapist at Sutter Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Sutter Health sponsor H-1B visas for Behavioral Health Therapists?
Yes, Sutter Health sponsors H-1B visas for Behavioral Health Therapists. Sponsorship is handled through Sutter's in-house immigration and HR teams, and it's most common for roles requiring a master's degree in social work, counseling, or a related clinical field. Confirming sponsorship intent early in the interview process is advisable, since H-1B petitions have strict USCIS filing deadlines tied to the federal cap cycle.
How do I apply for Behavioral Health Therapist jobs at Sutter Health?
Applications go through Sutter Health's careers portal, where postings are listed by location and clinical program. You can also browse verified Behavioral Health Therapist openings at Sutter Health through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles with a sponsorship track record. Having your California licensure documentation and clinical references ready before applying speeds up Sutter's credentialing review after an offer is made.
Which visa types does Sutter Health commonly use for Behavioral Health Therapist roles?
Sutter Health primarily uses the H-1B for temporary work authorization for Behavioral Health Therapists, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific clinical field. For permanent residency, Sutter uses EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant visa categories depending on the degree requirement of the specific position, with PERM labor certification through the Department of Labor as the standard first step.
What qualifications does Sutter Health expect for Behavioral Health Therapist roles?
Most Behavioral Health Therapist postings at Sutter Health require a master's degree in social work, marriage and family therapy, counseling, or clinical psychology, along with an active California BBS license such as LCSW, LMFT, or LPCC. Roles in integrated care settings often require additional experience with electronic health records and co-located primary care teams. Unlicensed candidates who are associate-level are generally not eligible for visa sponsorship.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take at Sutter Health for this role?
For H-1B sponsorship, the timeline depends on the USCIS filing cycle. Cap-subject petitions are registered in March, with employment starting no earlier than October 1. USCIS premium processing can reduce the adjudication period to 15 business days once the petition is filed. For Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3, the PERM labor certification stage alone can take 12 to 18 months before the I-140 petition is filed.
