Align your credentials to McDonald's PM frameworks
McDonald's corporate roles favor candidates with PMP certification or equivalent project management credentials. Ensure your resume reflects experience coordinating cross-functional teams, managing timelines, and tracking deliverables, since these mirror the operational complexity McDonald's expects at the Assistant Project Manager level.
Target McDonald's supply chain and technology openings
McDonald's Assistant Project Manager roles cluster in technology, restaurant development, and supply chain functions. Searching within these verticals improves your odds of landing a sponsorship-eligible posting, since these departments have the global scope that typically drives international hiring needs.
Understand which visa category fits your situation
McDonald's sponsors H-1B, TN, and F-1 OPT or CPT depending on your nationality and status. If you're Canadian or Mexican, the TN visa bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely for qualifying management roles, which significantly reduces your wait time for authorization.
Time your OPT application before your program ends
If you're on F-1 status, USCIS recommends filing your OPT application up to 90 days before your program end date. Starting your McDonald's job search during your final semester gives you a realistic runway to secure an offer before your authorization gap becomes a hiring obstacle.
Prepare documentation before your offer letter arrives
Once McDonald's extends a conditional offer, the LCA filing with DOL and subsequent H-1B petition move quickly. Have your degree certificates, transcripts, and employment history ready in advance so your HR contact can initiate the PERM or H-1B process without delays on your end.
Use Migrate Mate to find open sponsorship roles
McDonald's posts Assistant Project Manager openings across multiple internal and external channels, making it easy to miss sponsorship-eligible positions. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for McDonald's roles that match your visa type, so you only spend time on applications where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does McDonald's sponsor H-1B visas for Assistant Project Managers?
Yes, McDonald's sponsors H-1B visas for Assistant Project Manager roles. Project management positions typically qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria, which require at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as business administration, engineering, or information systems. You'll need a qualifying job offer before McDonald's can initiate the H-1B petition on your behalf.
How do I apply for Assistant Project Manager jobs at McDonald's?
Applications go through McDonald's careers portal at corporate.mcdonalds.com. You can also find sponsorship-confirmed Assistant Project Manager openings filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate, which saves you from manually screening postings. Tailor your resume to highlight cross-functional project coordination, stakeholder management, and any experience in food service, retail, or large-scale operations before applying.
Which visa types does McDonald's commonly use for Assistant Project Manager roles?
McDonald's sponsors H-1B visas most commonly for corporate project management roles. F-1 OPT and CPT are used for students and recent graduates in qualifying programs. Canadian and Mexican nationals in eligible management roles may qualify for TN visa status, which avoids the H-1B lottery. McDonald's also files EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant petitions for long-term permanent residence pathways.
What qualifications does McDonald's expect for Assistant Project Manager roles?
McDonald's typically expects a bachelor's degree in business, operations, engineering, or a related field for Assistant Project Manager positions. Relevant internship or work experience in project coordination, cross-functional team environments, or supply chain operations strengthens your application. PMP certification or familiarity with project management tools like Smartsheet, Jira, or Microsoft Project is frequently referenced in McDonald's job postings for these roles.
How long does the sponsorship process take for an Assistant Project Manager at McDonald's?
Timeline depends on your visa type. H-1B petitions filed in the April cap season take effect October 1 under standard processing, meaning several months of waiting after selection. TN status for Canadian nationals can be granted at the port of entry on the same day. F-1 OPT authorization through USCIS takes up to 90 days from the filing date, so planning ahead is critical to avoid gaps in your work authorization.
