McNeese State University invites applicants to apply for the position of Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychology and Counseling, in the College of Nursing and Health Professions. DEPARTMENT/COLLEGE: The Department of Psychology and Counseling at McNeese State University seeks to hire one full-time tenure-track faculty member in its B.S. in Psychology degree program. The successful candidate will join undergraduate and graduate faculty in its 10-member department housed in the College of Nursing and Health Professions.
Faculty often receive financial support for research and teaching initiatives through the college and university endowed professor funds and technology enhancement awards. Conference travel is encouraged and supported by Departmental funding.
Our program is enthusiastic about teaching and student research with a focus on the three-course undergraduate research sequence. Students receive the foundational underpinnings of conducting research, develop a research question, submit an HSIRB application, and collect and analyze data. The three courses culminate in a public poster defense and an APA paper of their research. Faculty enjoy flexible schedules that include both face-to-face instruction and online teaching along with optional paid summer teaching opportunities. The ideal candidates will also value teaching, evidence-based practice, and have research experience. Our current faculty have diverse backgrounds in behavior analysis/behavior science, cognitive science, counselor education, experimental psychology, and special education. Position Duties/Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- teaching psychology at the undergraduate level;
- teaching undergraduate research from study design to implementation to public presentation;
- university and community service, advising;
- modeling ethical behavior;
- and research/scholarship.
Assistant Professors will work closely with students and faculty in the Department of Psychology and Counseling.
Primary duties are centered around teaching and involvement in our undergraduate research sequence. Successful candidates are expected to behave in accordance with the overall mission and philosophy of our University and department.
Required/Preferred Qualifications
Minimum Required:
- Doctorate in psychology or experimental psychology or a closely related discipline
- Strong background in research
- Evidence of effective teaching of research at the undergraduate level
Preferred:
- Working knowledge of Microsoft excel as well as online software for conducting statistical analyses
- Experience with helping students develop research ideas, write research proposals, and complete IRB applications
- History of collaborative research with other faculty, colleagues, and/or students, leading to conference presentations and/or publications
- Experience with tracking or supervising online research sessions and data management systems
- Experience working with or on an IRB committee
