McNeese State University invites qualified applicants for the position of Director of Advising in the Division of Enrollment Management. This is a full-time, 12-month, unclassified position. The appointment is available June 1, 2026.

Position Overview:
The Director of Advising provides leadership in developing and implementing advising and retention initiatives to meet enrollment and graduation goals. The director collaborates throughout the University to advise, enroll, support, retain, and graduate students within a coordinated system of care focused on student success. The director is responsible for administrative oversight of Freshman Advising, including planning, budgeting, resource management, and program development. The director is a key collaborator in development, implementation, and assessment of online student orientation programs, parent orientation, and other related activities as needed and assigned. The director will be a central leader in development, implementation, and assessment of content, programs, interventions, training, and performance indicators associated with the University’s Student Success and First Year Experience programs.

Position Duties/Responsibilities
The Director:
Serves as department head for the Office of Advising; administers personnel and programs; coordinates and monitors freshmen academic advising; supports student orientation programs; leads retention initiatives related to freshmen and other students.
Participates in campus wide enrollment initiatives (preview days, counselor conferences, Cowboy Commitment Day, group advising) and supports department-level initiatives where appropriate (e-Week, Ed Rising). Serves as an academic advisor and maintains a caseload as needed to support other advising team members when absent or when volume requires.
Develops and oversees departmental and campus-wide development and implementation of successful academic advising models, paying special attention to use of technology, college student development theory, and research informed best practices in advising that foster student persistence and degree attainment.
Delivers campus-wide professional development programs related to advising and retention.
Collaborates with deans and academic departments for course planning purposes in support of incoming and freshman student enrollment.
Collaborates with the Academic Advising Committee to deliver professional development related to advising and retention and to design, implement, and assess training for faculty, staff and others who advise students.
Monitors and assesses progress and interventions with students not achieving goals or meeting academic progress expectations; coordinates multi-divisional outreach regarding academic concerns, attendance, mid-term performance, and related success and persistence indicators.
Collaborates with the registrar, director of institutional research, director of university computing services, director of special projects, and others in collection, analysis, and reporting of data regarding student readiness, retention, persistence, and success.
Maintains effective and positive communication with campus and community constituents.
Oversees advanced placement (AP and CLEP) and select credit examinations and departmental examinations; develops systems for automating the awarding of such credit.
Serves on committees, councils, task forces, and work teams, as appointed. Upholds University policies and procedures, accreditation standards, and diversity commitment. Supervises/evaluates others in accordance with University, system, state, and federal policies and regulations.
Complies with SACSCOC and other accrediting agencies, Title IV, and other applicable regulations.
Maintains competency regarding NCAA rules, promotes compliance and reports to the Compliance Coordinator violations of NCAA, Southland Conference and/or institutional rules; understands violations will result in disciplinary or corrective actions.
Completes other duties as assigned by the Executive Director for Enrollment Management.
Required/Preferred Qualifications
Required:
Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
Experience in academic advising at the collegiate level
A genuine care, concern and sense of responsibility for student persistence and success
Advanced skills related to computers/electronic information systems and oral and written communications
Positive attitude and initiative to problem-solve independently and with minimal supervision
Knowledge of best practices and strategies in developmental advising and student retention
* Experience working with at-risk populations in an educational setting
Preferred:
Experience in degree program coordination, transcript evaluation, degree certification, and budget management
Experience with Ellucian Banner and other data and information management systems in higher education
Experience working with adults of differing ranges, preferably in a training or educational setting
