Frame your portfolio around retail activations
Michaels prioritizes coordinators who've run consumer-facing events, not just corporate ones. Tailor your portfolio to highlight workshops, seasonal campaigns, or community programming that mirrors the craft and hobby retail environment they operate in.
Verify your degree supports specialty occupation classification
H-1B approval for Event Coordinator roles requires USCIS to accept the position as a specialty occupation. A degree in event management, marketing, communications, or hospitality directly tied to your job duties strengthens that argument considerably.
Target store-support and district-level openings
Michaels posts Event Coordinator roles across both field and corporate functions. District-level and regional support positions tend to involve more complex planning responsibilities, which builds a stronger specialty occupation case than entry-level in-store roles.
Clarify sponsorship intent before final interview rounds
Retail hiring timelines move quickly. Raise your visa sponsorship requirement before an offer is drafted so Michaels HR can loop in their immigration counsel early. Surprises at the offer stage frequently cause delays or withdrawals in retail environments.
Use Migrate Mate to identify active openings efficiently
Event Coordinator postings at Michaels open and close fast, especially around seasonal hiring peaks. Use Migrate Mate to filter and track open roles that align with your visa type so you're applying at the right moment in their hiring cycle.
Understand how TN status applies to Canadian and Mexican applicants
If you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship, TN status can be a faster path than H-1B for Event Coordinator roles. Confirm your job offer letter specifies a qualifying TN category, typically under management consultant or a closely related designation, before crossing the border.

Find Event Coordinator at Michaels Stores JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Michaels Stores sponsor H-1B visas for Event Coordinators?
Yes, Michaels Stores has sponsored H-1B visas for Event Coordinator roles. Approval depends on whether USCIS classifies the position as a specialty occupation, which requires a direct connection between the role's duties and a specific bachelor's degree field. Roles with complex planning, vendor coordination, or marketing responsibilities tend to meet that threshold more reliably than purely operational positions.
How do I apply for Event Coordinator jobs at Michaels Stores?
Applications go through Michaels Stores' careers portal, where postings are listed by location and function. Migrate Mate surfaces active Event Coordinator openings at Michaels filtered for visa sponsorship eligibility, which is useful if you want to track roles as they open. Tailor your application to highlight retail event experience, since Michaels looks for coordinators familiar with consumer-facing programming rather than purely corporate event backgrounds.
Which visa types does Michaels Stores commonly use for Event Coordinator roles?
Michaels Stores sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying full-time Event Coordinator positions. F-1 OPT and CPT are also supported, making Michaels an accessible option for recent graduates in their authorized work period. TN status is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in eligible categories. For longer-term employment, Michaels has pursued EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process for certain roles.
What qualifications does Michaels Stores expect for Event Coordinator roles?
Michaels typically looks for candidates with a bachelor's degree in event management, marketing, communications, or a related field, paired with hands-on experience coordinating consumer or retail events. Familiarity with vendor management, budget tracking, and in-store activation logistics is valued. For visa sponsorship purposes, the closer your degree aligns to your specific duties, the stronger your H-1B petition will be under USCIS specialty occupation standards.
How do I time my application around Michaels Stores' hiring and visa filing calendar?
Michaels ramps up Event Coordinator hiring before major retail seasons, particularly in late summer and fall ahead of holiday programming. If you're targeting H-1B sponsorship, securing an offer before April 1 allows your employer to file in the annual cap lottery. F-1 OPT holders have more flexibility since OPT authorization doesn't depend on the lottery, but the 60-day grace period between jobs means you should not delay applications after any employment gap begins.
