Frame your portfolio around retail activations
Michaels prioritizes events experience tied to customer-facing programming, workshops, and seasonal campaigns. Tailor your resume and portfolio to highlight in-store or community event coordination, not just corporate or conference work, before you apply.
Confirm OPT STEM eligibility before your interview
If you're on F-1 OPT, verify whether your degree qualifies for the 24-month STEM extension. Retail events roles at Michaels can bridge into a longer timeline, but only if your field of study aligns with STEM-designated programs on the official DHS list.
Target store-level and regional event coordinator postings
Michaels fills events roles at both corporate and field levels. Regional and district-based coordinator positions often have faster hiring cycles than headquarters roles, so search specifically for store or field-facing titles when browsing open positions.
Ask HR directly about H-1B cap-exempt timing
H-1B petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start date. If you're interviewing at Michaels outside that window, ask the recruiting team whether a cap-exempt entity or internal transfer pathway applies to your situation.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Events openings by visa type
Searching broadly across job boards wastes time on roles that won't sponsor. Migrate Mate lets you filter Michaels Stores Events openings specifically by the visa types they support, so you only spend time on postings that match your immigration status.
Get your LCA paperwork moving before the offer deadline
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with DOL before USCIS can process your H-1B petition. Confirm with Michaels HR early in the offer stage that they've engaged immigration counsel and that LCA preparation is already underway.

Find Events at Michaels Stores JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Michaels Stores sponsor H-1B visas for Events roles?
Yes, Michaels Stores has sponsored H-1B visas for Events positions. Sponsorship is more common for roles with a clear specialty occupation framing, such as event programming or experiential marketing coordination. If you're targeting an Events role, confirm sponsorship availability with the recruiter early in the process, since not every posting is automatically eligible.
How do I apply for Events jobs at Michaels Stores?
You can search for open Events roles on the Michaels careers site or browse verified sponsoring postings through Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for visa-eligible positions. When applying, tailor your materials to in-store programming, seasonal activations, or community workshop experience. Flag your visa status early so HR can loop in immigration counsel before extending an offer.
Which visa types are commonly used for Events roles at Michaels Stores?
Michaels Stores has supported H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and EB-2 or EB-3 green card pathways for employees in this function. F-1 OPT and CPT are common entry points for recent graduates. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying occupational categories. H-1B and employment-based green cards are more typical for mid-level or senior Events professionals.
What qualifications does Michaels Stores expect for Events positions?
Michaels generally looks for candidates with hands-on experience coordinating in-store events, workshops, or community activations in a retail or consumer-facing environment. A bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, hospitality, or a related field strengthens your H-1B specialty occupation case. Familiarity with high-volume, seasonal programming and vendor coordination is a practical differentiator for retail-specific roles.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for Events hires at Michaels Stores?
Timeline depends on visa type. F-1 OPT authorization through USCIS takes up to 90 days, so you should apply at least three months before your intended start date. H-1B petitions follow a fixed annual cycle, with a filing window in April for an October 1 start. TN status can be obtained at a port of entry with same-day processing for eligible candidates. Factor these windows into your offer negotiation with Michaels HR.
